Hey.

I posted this in the ask the experts forum but realised it's probably the wrong place for it. I'm not satisfied with how long carts last. I top up every time the throat hit and vapour starts getting low, which seems to be pretty fast. I've also tried direct dripping but it also needs topping up just as fast, if not faster. I don't want to be topping up every hour like I am at the minute. Is there anyway to make the juice last longer while still getting good throat hit and vapour? I'm using a 901 if that helps. Thanks.

The information below is taken from the thread linked in my signature.
It is intended to instruct you to start looking into the Cartridge Mods subforum.

You need a better wicking material...

Dry atomizers, flooded atomizers, and wicking
Basically, you want to keep your atomizer happy with plenty of juice, but not too much as to flood it.

A good sign that it's flooded is that it gets a little harder to draw on and you get little or no vapor.
Flooding it, however, won't hurt it at all, and you can just blow out the extra juice.

Letting it get too dry, on the other hand, is not good for the atomizer supposedly.
But regardless of whether it is bad for the atomizer or not, you still don't want to do it.

You can tell it is too dry when it starts to taste like crap.
A nasty sort of burnt plastic type of taste.

One reason it might get too dry is if you burn through the juice faster than it can wick up more.
That is why people experiment with different kinds of filler materials to use in their cartridges.

If you take only a drag or two every now and then, you should be fine.
But if you use these like a cigarette, the wicking process will have trouble keeping up.
There are ways to deal with this, and people have different methods that work better for them.

And of course, when the cartridge is running low on juice, it needs topping off for this reason.

Hello and Welcome...The short answer is if you are using carts...then NO,,, you will be topping off carts all the time....for me,,,I top them off at least three or four times when driving about 20 miles in town...But, on the bright side....when you do, the TH and vapor is great,,,and of course you are not having an analog that is so bad for you...So consider the up side and down side...and decide what you want.......Enjoy...

Thanks for all the information so far, your thread was a big help DC2. I've been looking into the cartridge mods and from what I gather most of them give better throat hit and vapour and allow you fill the carts up more than usual but seem to use even more juice? I'm already worried about the amount of juice I'm using, seems it isn't going to be much cheaper than smoking at this rate. I tried the straw mod but I didn't notice anything different at all. Maybe I need to cut down on the amount of vaping I'm doing, I'm almost constantly puffing on it.

Anything that gives more vapor, by definition, is going to be using more juice.

It would be very hard, if not impossible, to use so much juice that you aren't saving money over cigarettes. The heaviest vapers use about 5ml of juice, and that is VERY rare. At that rate, though, you would go through a 30ml bottle in 6 days, so that would be 5 30ml bottles per month. That should only cost you somewhere between $50 and $75 per month.

Most people only use around 2-3ml per day on average.

Do you have any idea how much juice you are using?
What nicotine strength are you using?
How many of what kind of cigarettes did you smoke previously?

I'm going to recommend the ZFM (Zero Filler Mod). It is almost perfect. You can try making it yourself or you can buy the plugs pre-made. He makes them for the 510 and the 901. It basically turns the cartridge into a reservoir for the juice to feed directly to the atomizer.

I tried making my own and I was really impressed even though my replica wasn't perfect. It is really annoying to make and get it right so I ended up buying some. The pre-made ones are much better. There is never a burnt nasty flavor and you can vape until your cartridge is bone dry. The consistency is great, every puff is full of flavor and vapor.

It takes almost a day for my husband to finish a full cartridge. For me, maybe 2-3 refills per day. We get about 15 drops in the cartridge using a Joye 510 and depending on the type of juice. 20 drops = 1 ml.

It really has made my vaping experience a lot better. I couldn't stand constantly topping carts or dripping. Not to mention, the burnt nastiness when it gets dry all the time.

Looking back at it I think I've overestimated how much juice I've been using. I guess I got a little worried when I noticed the bottles going down faster than expected. I've used about 8ml in a week, which is only £5 for me. I was smoking golden virginia and amber leaf rolling tobacco before, which was about £10 a week, so a little improvement there. Although I haven't factored in buying spare attys and batteries and carts.

Just had a go at trying to cut up one of the 901 plugs, the ones I have are way too thin and bendy. I guess I need a 510 cart. I was thinking of getting some of the pre-made ones you mentioned but it could take 2-3 weeks to get here from america. So It's that or get some 510 carts and make my own.
