What is a good decently priced torch for oxidizing mesh ? I seen a cheapy at Harbor Freight but was hesitant to buy it. Also do you recommend a butane refillable type or a replaceable tank style ?

I found mine at Meijer for under $24. You don't need a powerful flame. Some people say they use their gas top stove flame or even a Bic lighter. I would get a butane refillable type like mine if you go this route.

I bought the cheapy Orange refillable at the Harbor Freight.
Seems to work fine so far. Been using it a few months now.

Alrighty then, I'll pull the trigger on that one. In fact, that's the same one that Harbor Freight up the road here sells for only $8.99 plus tax. Only thing is they don't sell the Butane but that should be easy enough to find around here.

When you buy refills, make sure you get the butane that is filtered multiple times... Keeps the refill nozzle on your torch from getting clogged and will extend the life of it.

I've just been using my kitchen torch and it's been working well.

Just get one of those kitchen burners for making "creme brulee", those generally are pretty cheap and you can butane refillable

They are easy to work with and you unless you seriously screw it up, they are pretty safe, can't tip over etc
