I have been using an AGA T2 for around two months now and have been fairly successful. I made a new wick of 400 mesh trying to roll it as tight as I can. I used a butane torch to oxidize it like I have the rest of the wicks I've made. It would not stop shorting on the top coil. I don't know how many coils I popped trying to eliminate it. The coils are being wrapped loosely enough for the wick to be turned easily. Any clues as to what's going on and how to fix it?

maybe a little to loose. anyways its a good idea to start out on very low voltage when starting out. for me its all about the correct tension of the wires. I used to ox my wicks but now pulse ox with a mechanical mod, its a way better way. what mod do you have? also its becomes easier with a slightly thicker gauge wire, what gauge are you using now? and what resistance? the aga is known for a longer then normal distance between wick & pp. sometimes its easier to get a good coil if you shorten up this distance. the best performing coils are wicks that are very close to the pp connection.

32 kanthal 3/4 wrap on an SVD. I'm putting it on 3.5 to 4 watts initially. I've always had trouble pushing the wick to the pp. it always shorts when I try that. It seems to put too much pressure on the top coil that way and I can never get rid of the short that causes.

IMO, 32ga is difficult to work with, compared to heavier wire. 32ga is prone to cutting through the oxidation layer on the mesh; and it shifts easily during use, and just handling of the device. Set it down on a table too hard; and the coil is liable to shift. I had a lot less problems when I switched to using heavier wire. I use 30ga on vv and vw mods. 28ga on mechanicals.
