I live in Toronto Ontario and have whats called The Smoke-Free Ontario Act (SFOA) this regulates cigarette use throughout the Provence. I did contact the provincial government and city of Toronto officials to find out if these laws/restrictions were applied to e-cigs. This was the response I got.

"The Smoke-Free Ontario Act (SFOA) and the City of Toronto Municipal Code does not regulate the use of electronic cigarettes, as these products do not contain tobacco. As such, restrictions respecting sale, promotion and use do not apply."

I have vaped in public a lot. On our transit system, stadiums, and with permission in restaurants and bars. I just recently got permission to vape at work in areas outside designated as non-smoking areas. I usually get looks and questions rather than discontent. If someone really objects I put my e-cig away. I think it's going to be give and take for a long time until e-cigs are accepted as a clean alternative to analogs.

I work in downtown Toronto in an office building in a cubicle farm. I've been freely vaping at my desk for over a year now. Everyone in the lab knows what it is and has no problem with it.

The only complaint I've received is with MLV Sithgar.....one co-worker thought the smell was offensive and asked me not to use that flavour at work.

I also sneak vapes on the subway and used to on the GO before I moved to TO.

I've never had a negative reaction in public.

Here in my Small Town just north of Barrie vaping is welcome every where and i mean every where. At the Hospital in emerge (where you can be for hours) as well as in Visiting Rooms, Dr Office Waiting Rooms & in Office, Heath Unit, Dentist Office, Homes For The Elderly Visiting Area and Rooms, Court House waiting area inside, Malls, Stores Food & Clothing, Bus, Cabs, Bingo Halls, Movies, Coffee Shop, Bars. Even High School in non smoking areas and halls.
Being in a small town most often more strict but in next small town over we have a E-Cig store so it helps and a Canvape in Barrie. We stared out as a small group of vapers and it grows by the week its awesome :)

I have not Vaped in all of theses places but between myself and friends it has been welcome in all. One place we have all vaped is in non smoking homes and all loved the smell it left in the air :thumb:

I hope kids aren't just starting vaping cause they see you and your friends doing it. Besides that they shouldn't be selling them to highschool kids which you saying you can vape in highschool is indicating you are in highschool and too young to be vaping aswell. Canvape already had some issues doing this in the past at that location so would be surprised if they did it again. Banning smoking in most places was a great way to stop more teenagers from smoking if they have less places to smoke there isn't much point smoking. Everyone smoked when I was younger now not nearly as many young people. If I start seeing teenagers vaping everywhere ill be the first to sign a ban against them in places aswell. I'm sure there are health risks from vaping but allot less than smoking which after 20 years was next to impossible for me to quit until I found vaping, but there is no excuse for teenagers to be using them.

I'm done ranting for today :)

Really? When did you start smoking? I started as a teenager myself. Who's to say teens aren't discovering this is a way to quit as well?

Don't point fingers until you know the entire story. ;)

If you started as a teen I'm.sure.you remember why and how you were able to start smoking. There is always some store that will sell to kids, wish there wasn't when I started. I was just a little irritated thinking kids were picking the habit up so had to rant lol.

To hear that a highschool would allow kids to vape in school is not a good thing. I can understand using it to quit but allowing kids to use them everywhere just makes it more tempting for them to want to try it. Its the old monkey see monkey do for teenagers best to keep it out of most of their sight. Allot of Pvs look cool what kid wouldn't want to try one if they think its not bad for them. I'm sure they are not 100% healthy but minimally bad for you compared to smoking. I don't want to see on the news about some kid trying to DIY and dying from nicotine poisoning or misusing an APV and it blowing up on them.

I'll refrain from getting into this as it can be a very volatile matter, remember it was 2 young adults who built several bombs and blew them up in Boston, whether it be young adults, teenagers etc..... They well find Vapeing and do it wherever anyways. Enough said, sometimes we just need to grow up by ourselves.

That's true they may find it I just want to avoid them finding it when possible that's all.

If I didn't have a teenage daughter to see the things she does without thinking I would probably feel different. Kids are funny creatures she complained on.and on about me smoking and how bad it smelled up until a month into highschool then all of a sudden smoking was great :/

Teens believe they are immortal and infertile. That will never change.

But there are two separate issues here regarding teens and vaping.

First, there is the irrational fear that anti-smoking people spread about vaping. They believe that teens who don't smoke cigarettes will suddenly start vaping (and that flavoured juice or celebrity endorsements will entice them).

The fact is that people who don't smoke cigarettes don't use e-cigarettes. The UK-based Action on Smoking and Health (ASH) just released the findings of their most recent study of e-cigarette use in the UK. In their survey of more than 12,000 adults and 2,178 children (aged 11-18 years), they were unable to find a single child, youth, or adult non-smoker/never-smoker who was currently using an e-cigarette. [see: www.ash.org.uk/files/documents/ASH_891.pdf]

It's clear that e-cigarettes aren't a "gateway" to tobacco cigarettes -- for teens or anyone else.

The second issue is whether e-cigs should be sold to youth who currently smoke tobacco. Here, I'm not so sure. Minors can get NRT products over the counter (and 'adverse events' have been recorded for the gum). But we should all be especially concerned with stopping kids both before and after they start smoking tobacco.

I'm as worried as anyone about the potential long-term consequences of vaping (which Health Canada appears to have no interest in studying), but we all KNOW that vaping is better than tobacco smoking. If it worked for me (after 40 years of smoking), I'm a little reluctant to withhold it from teens addicted to tobacco. It's about harm reduction...

OK, end of rant. A shout out from the Left Coast to all my relatives in Barrie, Midland and Penetang!

I got the weirdest look in a public place, and it was such a cheap unit barely any vapour even came out. (I am currently waiting on my PV in the mail). In any case, I'm so glad this has come out.

I hope every smoker takes it up, and people all start vaping indoors. In the old days, if someone complained about a smoker they would be the ones to get an odd look. Hell, you get onto an airplane and it's just a giant smoke tin, your eyes would be burning by the time the plane landed. Those days are long gone.

The pendulum swung so far the opposite way when Ontario banned indoor smoking. People catch you smoking in a club now and they look at you like you killed a kitten. It's ridiculous!

So... I will be taking my PV with me everywhere. I will be vaping everywhere. And I hope I get those moral indignant looks from people who have trouble minding their own business, simply so I can walk by and say "can't even smell the smoke can ya?"

hehehe

The question of vaping and kids is a very difficult one.
Although, I am all in favour of preventing those who are underage from accessing e-cigs, I am torn when it comes to allowing access to a product that will help them get off smoking. Maybe, a general ban on sales to those too young to buy cigarettes and then allow sales through pharmacies with a doctor’s consultation.

What I do know is that discretion and courtesy goes a long way. I vape very much as I smoked. Not being prohibited is not the same as being permitted.
If I am on private property, I ask permission. If I am on public property, I vape discreetly and away from other people, if possible.
This does not mean that I will just roll over and take it if someone comes looking for conflict. It just means I will not be the one to give cause to start it.
