Okay I have decided to try this vaping thing I have been hearing so much about.

I have spent hours and hours poring over threads on this board, and elsewhere on the web trying to determine the best style to meet my needs.

I am currently smoking around a pack a day and can't wait to try this to give my lungs a break.

After a lot of thought I have pretty much settled on an 801 pen-style.

Wondering a few things here...

I definitely will want the USB passthrough, as I spend hours at a time both during the day at work, as well as at night, at a PC.
I will also however want to have a second fully functioning unit to take with me in the car or if I am going out.
All I need in this case would be a second atomizer unit, assuming I buy a starter kit including the extra batteries, right?

Im looking at:

-Starter kit (2 batteries, 1 atomizer)
-USB passthrough
-usb car adapter (maybe)
-Extra atomizer (with this, and the batteries I will have 2 fully functioning units right? One connected to my PC at all times, and the second using the normal bat's?)

Then of course carts/liquid. I am probably going to go with the pre-filled carts at first. The whole dripping thing sounds rather daunting and cumbersome to me.

I was just basically wondering if I am correct in my plans as far as what to order to be able to have the 2 fully functioning units...one tethered to the PC perma, and another to carry with me when needed.

Also having some issues on determining where to buy this all through. I have checked several links I found on here, and it seems like a lot of stuff is out of stock.
One I was on didn't have the finish I wanted in the USB passthrough for example...so I would have had a black pen and a silver usb passthrough or some such thing...

If anyone can give me some solid advice on these 2 things...if I am correct on what I need for my plan, and where to buy, I would be eternally grateful.

Thanks in advance!

sounds like you did your research, thats good to see.. i've only been vapin for about a month now, i myself as you smoked about a pack a day, and i'm down to none at all .. well it was a quick easy transition for me..
the prefilled carts are not always very tasty to say the least.
and dripping/filling blank carts is not hard at all, its very easy and i prefer it to prefilled carts frankly:D
and welcome:)

Ya I am sure I will end up on the juice eventually.
It sounds like most prefer it, and I assume it is cheaper too.

I just figured using the cartridges at first would keep things simpler.

I just wish I knew which site'(s) were best to order all I need.
I even almost bought the Kissbox since its simple and you can get all your needs right there, but didn't really feel like spending 3X the money unnecessarily.

Anyone who know me knows what I'm going to say, but I'll say it anyway:

Dura-C and a bottle of liquid.

You get a good e-cig with a spare atomiser in the starter kit.

Whatever you decide on, make sure you have a spare atomiser.

Hmm.

I hadn't looked at the Dura but just checked it out.
Looks pretty nice but it appears to not have a usb passthrough, unless I am missing it somewhere.

Other thing I was curious about was the whole switch thing...manual vs auto.

Seems some prefer the manual switch, and feel they are able to get a better draw using it.
can I buy manual switch batteries for a standard 801 style pen?
Will this be compatible with the USB passthrough?

So many questions...I swear I tried to research all this but there is just so much and I am feeling overwhelmed!

I ordered my 901 through MyVaporStore. It took less than 3 days to arrive. He was one of the few places I considered that actually had stock.

My suggestion is to get a couple of spares - you never know when your atty is going to die on you, they're considered semi-consumables, and right now spares can be difficult to get quickly....
Attys for sure (maybe 1 or 2 more).

Filling carts - dripping - or topping off is not that hard to do, unless you're on the freeway going 80mph. Do yourself (and your taste buds) a favor, save a bit of cash, and get some juice. The pre-filled carts do not taste nearly as good as a fresh bottle of juice...

The penstyle is a good choice, I'm a dedicated 801 user because I like the extra cart capacity, but I'm not discounting any of the other models. The 901 is a good starter model, dependable, and easy to find parts (usually).

Not going to sugar coat it - things are bad right now. I've been seeing a lot of suppliers in the states out of stock for a long time - hearing in the wind that customs is ramping up on stopping big shipments in. The FDA is still making noises, and everyone is jumpier than a jack rabbit....If you want to do this (and I do say I will NEVER go back to analogs again!) be prepared....your supply could be cut off any time except for pulling in small shipments from China. Even then, you roll the dice and tke your chances in getting shipments stopped.....

Now, with all that said - good places for 801's? Eastmall and Ruyan Direct are direct Chineese resellers, and they should have stock. In the states, I don't know......check the suppliers section in the forum for links - Dietsmokes, Puresmoker, and Smokeless Delite all have sold 801's - if they have stock...

If you want to go pricier - check Jantyusa. The Kissbox classic or extended kits are very good products - but you do pay for them....and they have the manual switch, which I love.

Hope I haven't scared you off. Good luck, and don't be afraid to ask questions when you have them...we were all new to vaping once, and remember what it's like..

Welcome to the forum!

I think there's a different company that makes a passthrough which is compatible. Not tried one myself though so I'll keep quiet.

Manual vs. auto is one of those things you can only decide for yourself. I haven't heard many people say they actively dislike manual, and obviously I prefer it myself.

Edit: I've been vaping away at the computer for 8 hours today and am still using the same Dura-C battery I unplugged from the charger this morning. Battery life isn't a problem in my experience.

Bottom line is that any of the models mentioned in this thread will be a good place to start so don't worry too much about getting the exact right one for you first time out.

Hmm if that's the case (custom problems)
Maybe I will go ahead and order a decent supply of juice along with my starter kit
Does that mean I need blank cartridges too or do I just refill the ones that come with the starter kit?

And yeah...these standard 801's apparently do not have the option of the manual switch. I'm actually not so sure I want manual anyways...I dont want to have to press a button every time I take a drag I don't think...I might like the option to be open to try it though should I like it.

I've been reading this thread e-cigarette-forum.com/forum/electronic-cigarette-reviews/4787-801-manual-switch-usb-cig-quick-review-5.html

and now I'm totally lost.

vaporguys has it all in black

Apparently they don't sell spare atomizers (I will want to order a bunch!) for the 801 unless I am looking at their site wrong.
Under accessories and atomizer I only get 2 options: super mini, and mini
Then again, if the atomizers are universal I could always buy those elsewhere...
I don't even know the answer to that question though. It seems some things may be proprietary and others are universal...

Softop...you might try Eastmall...

USB Manual Switch - Eastmall International Co.,Ltd

This seems to have everything you've been thinking about getting. Eastmall (David Yang) has received great reviews on the forum and I haven't heard of Customs holding any shipments from him. He also has eliquid that seems to be well liked.

Getting the pass-through is a good idea but they do tend to break easily. Some members have stated that their usb ports on their computers did not provide enough power to adequately power the pass-through. I would suggest getting a usb adapter so you can get your power from an outlet which will provide good power consistently. It needs to be a 5V-1A adapter. Here is the one that has worked well for me:

Amazon.com: Coby CA81 Dual USB Power Adapter/Charger (White): Everything Else

Thanks.

I am looking at eastmall now, and Thanks for the tip on the wall-usb adaptor. I will probably go ahead and grab one of those too.

I am confused about this switch thing now though...

On eastmall I am debating ordering the usb manual switch kit
It appears to also come with an automatic switch.

I was thinking I should order an additional manual switch mechanism in case I find I like it...to put on my secondary pen which I will bring with me in the car, and out and about. Should I also order extra batteries for the untethered one?

I want to be able to have my usb passthrough tethered at all times at my desk, and a secondary unit to bring in the car, etc

I want to be able to try both manual and auto switches (and dont mind wasting a little $ to get both) and have accessibility to both options on both units, tethered, and portable.

I am getting even more confused now on what exact parts I need for what it is I want to do.

For example...
If I want to be able to leave my usb passthrough e-cig at my desk, and have a complete secondary unit, is all I need for that a second atomizer, and the battery? (i know his kit comes w/ one but I'd probably order a few extras)
What about the switches? are the automatic switches included in the battery+atomizer setup and only the manual switch is an additional component?

Wondering what I need to buy there, because I see he sells manual switch component (should I want to add one for my portable unit) but not automatic...so I am assuming the standard battery includes the standard automatic switch?

-Very overwhelmed!!!

p.s. thanks for all the help, I really do appreciate it!

Well I couldn't take the stress anymore so I bit the bullet and ordered the kissbox (just sent him my payment via paypal) with 5 cartridge packs (5 in ea) and 2 extra atomizers just in case.

I know standard 801 atomizers will work so I am throwing money away, but I didn't want to deal anymore with trying to figure all this out...

I will most likely end up buying some juice elsewhere as janty seems to be out of regular tobacco juice, but I will try the filled cartridges for now. In the future I will buy atomizers as needed elsewhere for cheaper.

Anyways, I can't wait till it arrives.
Wish me luck, and thanks again for the advice!

Good luck suftop. I have been doing this for about a month now and I have some advise on juice for ya. People may disagree with me but, Tobacco flavor doesn't really taste like tobacco to me. As you get into this you are most likely going to find that you really like it. Then you are going to want to try another juice so you buy a 30 ml bottle of a certain kind of juice that sounds good and you drop 25-35 dollars including shipping. Mistake. If you want to try a different flavor of juice I highly recommend buying a sampler kit. Johnson's Creek has a nice sampler kit on their site. It costs $37.xx and gives you 10 different samples to try. Going this route you could avoid buying a juice that you dislike and are stuck with 30ml of.
