Hi. I'm Scott. This is my 1st time here. I've been a member for about 30 min's. and I'm totally lost as to how to use this site. Any tips? I also have a question that's pretty important Cuz it could be a safety issue. I have a Kamry k101 with an 18650 battery in it. I'd like to know if I can use the new Kanger Subtank on it. Just as a stock tank set-up. Not an rba or anything. Just the kamry k101 and the kangrer subtank with a stock coil. Thanks

Hi, I’m new to the forum. Just wanted to touch on Satkins40 post.

I purchased a Kanger Kbox and the Kanger Subtank Nano. The Kanger KBox, unlike the Kamry K101, is a variable protected device and for the protection that it offers, I purchased the KBox (Kanger includes both a 0.5 and a 1.2 ohm coil with the Nano). But, I purchased some Nitecore 3400mAh 18650 batteries and it would not fire the 0.5 coil. Thought I got a bad coil cause I saw the display was out (as the Kanger KBox manual states it would not fire for short circuit protection). Well, then a friend gives me an Efest IMR unprotected battery which I put in the KBox and the 0.8 ohm coil fired beautifully. I even took up to 40 watts and it fired nicely!
.
The Nitecore batteries have such a low protection setting built-in, that I cannot fire any coil lower than 1.2 ohms with Nitecore batteries. I can still fire non-subohm coils on my KBox using a Nitecore battery as long as I don’t go over the 13 watt setting on the device. Long story short, Nitecore brand are not for subohming. Gonna order Efest real soon!

Just keep that in mind about using protected batteries. A far as non-protected batteries like the EFest IMR 18650 LiMn 2500 mAh 35 amp flattop, I don’t believe you’ll have any protection. Hopefully someone on the forum can touch on this matter a little further. Good luck!

Hello and welcome to the forum satkins40. Glad to have you here!:)

I have a Kamry k101 with an 18650 battery in it. I'd like to know if I can use the new Kanger Subtank on it.

The short answer: The chemistry and CDR (continuous discharge rating or Amps) of your battery along with the ohm of your coil determines how safe you will be using any battery in your mod. Mods today (even regulated devises) require IMR or IMR/hybrid, safe-chemistry, high-drain batteries.

Using Ohm's law, a 0.5 ohm coil will draw/pull 8.4amps on a fully charged battery (4.2 volts). So you could use a 10A battery but it does not give you much headroom* for safety. I would recommend you purchase/use a 20A battery. I use the Samsung 25R (2500 mAh 20A) when I don't require a 30A battery. RTD Vapor has them in stock.

* Regarding headroom (I'll quote tj99959 as this is what I use), "everyone is free to set their own parameters, and I can only say what mine are.

I try to never exceed 50% of the CDR of a battery. So with a 20A battery, that would be 10A.
This Ohm's Law Calculator tells me that a .4 ohm coil/build is as low as I would want to use.

The reason that I place a 50% limit is because as a battery ages the mAh of the battery degrades, as the mAh degrades, so does the batteries c rating. (amp limit) So down the road, a 20A battery may only be a 10A battery".

Since you are using a mechanical I highly recommend you spend some time with Baditude (one of our resident battery experts) and visit his blogs. You are now 100% in control of your own safety (and others around you). Make sure you purchase an ohm reader and a voltmeter or DMM so you can measure your builds, check for shorts and measure the remaining charge on your batteries.

Baditudes Blogs. The blogs that address battery safety, Ohm's Law, CDR (continuous discharge rating/Amps) and how they all work together are detailed below:

BATTERIES

Battery Basics for Mods: IMR or Protected ICR?
* Another essential read to understand which batteries are safe to use in mechanical and regulated mods. Includes a frequently updated list of recommended safe-chemistry, high-drain batteries with their specifications.

Purple Efest Batteries not as Advertised
* A cautionary blog that reveals that the purple Efest batteries may not have the specifications advertised. Also includes a commentary on "continuous discharge ratings" vs "pulse discharge ratings" of battery specs.

OHM'S LAW

Ohm's Law for Dummies (Vapers)
* My attempt at explaining Ohm's Law in layman terms and how it relates to vaping.

Explain it to the Dumb Noob: Ohm's Law Calculations
* As simple as it is to use, some people have a tough time grasping the concept. Warning: Includes graphic photos of mod explosions.

BATTERIES - WHERE TO BUY

Only buy batteries from a reputable supplier (not ebay or Amazon) as there are many counterfeit batteries being sold. Here are several reputable battery suppliers in the US.

* RTD Vapor
* Illumination Supply
* Lighthound
* Orbtronics

You too should be only be using a 20A battery regardless of the ohm of your stock subtank coil (1.2Ω or 0.5Ω). Using inappropriate batteries will void the warranty. Here are the instructions/specs on your KBox. Kanger KBOX MOD

Your purple EFest are fine for use in your KBox. However (just a heads up), they are not 35A as printed on the wrapper. If you ever need a 30A battery you will need to purchase a different battery.

Hello I am fairly new to vaping . I use a 50w Sigeile ox mod with an Aspire Atlantis Clearomizer. I am trying o go a step further and buy a Jellyfish Lotus box mod and a hybrid rebuildable atomizer. I was hoping someone might recommend an Authentic suggestion as to what kind of Atomizer I should get. I do not want and RDA which i have to dipp evry 5 -10 puffs or so, but rather a system with a tank involved. Help a guy out?
