Hiya,
I vape at 24mg with the occasional 18mg. I've ordered 50/50 24mg base because I wanted to try unflavoured. On a whim, I threw a bottle of flavouring in with my order too.

Having never done this before, am I right in assuming that all I need to do is add, maybe 0.5ml of flavour to 4.5ml of unflavoured, to produce 5ml of just under 24mg? I don't need to add water or anything like that to it do I?

Thanks

Sitting down, facing forward.
I'll give you a basic answer. Get a DIY calculator before you try mixing anything. There are a number of them out there and they're free but some require Excel or Open Office to run. I'd suggest starting out with a low percentage of flavor since you can always add more, but it's harder to make it less and keep track of what the actual percentage is. Above all, be safe, nicotine is a poison after all. Any flavor added to your base will reduce its nicotine content and change the PG/VG ratio. It is easier to use PG, VG, nicotine and flavors as separate components to maintain percentages of all ingredients.

Thanks ... I think I'll do that one day, I've started to settle down and find the type of flavours I like (minty and tobacco-y), so at some point it will be much cheaper to try and mix them myself. I'lll need to do a lot more reading on here though, before I even think about ordering stuff - I'm not the tidiest cook in the world so heaven knows how much mess I'll make with juices. I need to feel like I know what I'm doing (and how to be safe!).

Yes, that's all you need to do for a simple mix. Of course 10% flavor reduces the nicotine strength by that much.

The DIY calculators are a big help with more complex multi-flavor mixes, but I do my simple mixes as you've described, pre-mixed base with a percentage flavoring. No need to make things more complicated until/unless you want to.

We all started as newbies and the more you mix, the more you come into your own and find methods that works best for you. While you are new at DIY and can be prone to messes, I would suggest you wear gloves. Nicotine is dangerous and you don't want to get the Nic liquid on your skin.

Get a calculator.. it makes everything so much easier and some even let you save your recipes so that you can keep a track during experimentations.

Last but not least... research.. read forum posts, ask questions and good old google works as well. You will find that the veterans here are very nice and are usually happy to help. I have also gone into the chatroom and did some mixing while chatting and the guys there were very helpful.

I wish you all the best! Never give up, keep mixing :2cool:

Your starting with 24mg base so your hazards are very low. So it's not a real worry. I understand your basic non-hastle approach and I see nothing wrong with what your trying to do. You want to start with a 24mg 50/50 base and add some flavor to it. That's simple enough. Your measuring by ml's so that is also a very good start. You've figured out that your adding 10% flavor which is not an unreasonable start so that is also good. It sounds to me like you've thought this out well so carry on.

A few things to remember are. It's OK to taste what you've mixed right away but the flavor will change as time passes. So if it taste to strong don't think you've failed and dump it. Wait a few days and taste it again. If it seems to be mellowing then give it a few more days. If it does not seem to be mellowing then add 1.5 ml's of base this will cut the flavor to approx 7%. Use common sense and try to keep track of what your doing. The best way is to write it all down. Have fun and good luck.

Remember mixing is not rocket science it's nothing more then common sense so have fun with it.

Do you want the good news or the bad news first?

I'll pick............The Bad News = it's not that simple.

The Good News = it's not that simple.

This forum has so much great info, resources and links available for all of us to learn. I have had the greatest time w/DIY juice and owe a lot of that to this forum. Hold on - you're in for a hell of a ride if it catches on for you. Have fun - and please share with us the great creations you come up with.

Completely agreed. I vape around 12mg to 18mg and like a 75/25 mix of pg/vg. I take a mix of 1000ml of 36mg PG and add 500ml PG and another 500ml VG. Then I just add my flavorings when I am ready at between 10% and 20%. Sure it's slightly less than 18mg and runs closer to 80% PG but who cares. And you can do it with any mix you like. Simple mixing, difficult to screw up and safe enough for a even a noob (with standard protective gear). Total runs about 7 cents a ml.

Cheers. Mail arrived yesterday ( I quite like unflavoured!). I was very unscientific about it in the end and just added a couple of drops of flavouring into a tank full of the base and it tasted alright. Good enough for me to think it would be worth measuring it out and trying it properly anyway.
I've got some 10ml bottles that are nearly empty. I'll use those up and then I'll fill a couple of bottles and see what happens.

Thanks for the tips and links! After 3 weeks without a single craving, I've realised that vaping is definitely for me; I've moved from an ego battery to a VV and I'm waiting for my MVP2 to arrive, so I'm all set now. DIY is probably the next logical step!
