Hi Everyone,
I just started vaping on Sat. I've been a Marlboro light smoker for over 25 yrs. I got a starter kit on sat. After reading all these posts I'm just totally lost on the acronyms for things...it's like totally foreign? I have a Kangertech Evod starter kit. I have like 3 flavors. I'm battling needing a real cigarette right now. I use 18 mg. I just want something to replace smoking a real cigarette. I don't need all the fancy stuff I see on here...frankly it's scary to me that all these options exist? Can anyone suggest to me what to do/expect? I can't vape all day...I work and I'm sure I can't do it there...I just want something plain and simple. From what I've read so far...this is really complicated? Does it really have to be? Help please!!

Hey sasa91998,

I fortunately did not go through your exact situation, but I understand your frustration. To alleviate your worries, I can confirm it's not complicated. It's fairly simple and almost second nature once you've kicked the butts. I started and am currently vaping from an eGo 900mah twist with a CE4 tank on it. This means.. I am vaping from an eGo with a medium size battery with variable voltage twist mechanism on it, and your standard e liquid tank with coil/atomizer attached to it. Most important tip is to keep an extra battery, fully charged close to you so you dont have to worry about a dead unit when you need it most.

With that out of the way - I suggest Halo Tribeca for your all day vape. Its dry, slightly sweet, and not too overpowering or candy-like to make you feel like you drank vodka and orange juice all evening and regret it. I've been vaping it all day for months with a light amount of Liquia Green Apple.

Hope this can calm your nerves - I really wish you the best and hope you give up analogs - its liberating.

You can expect to quit the analogs. Things only seem complicated but they really aren't. Maybe increase the nic one more level to 24mg and slowly start lowering it. Remember........ baby steps......

I can agree with this as well - it's not about smoking cigs once you make that decision. And it's actually quite lovely :p

Bump your nicotine level up to 24mg. I smoked the same cigs as you for 24 years and am 3 days free of them using a ego and my MVP 2.0
I would invest in a back up device and find some juices that you really like. When I first got my "gear" I still smoked and I guess I needed to be "won over" by vaping. As time went by I would vape when I wanted a cig most, like right after dinner or sex, or first thing in the morning. After doing that for a while I realized that it was working I was just reluctant to go full board with it. As you can see by my banner I did it and so far it is working. I'm not gonna lie to you and say it has been a walk in the park... it has been high- highs and low- lows... But I am getting through it. This "vaping" thing is a savior IMHO....

Good luck! and ease into it... no one is passing out awards for the best transition....

First of all welcome to ecf.

Try taking long, slow hits from the ecig. Let it sit a couple seconds in your mouth before exhaling. Drink plenty of liquids. Vaping is not smoking, in that you know when you are done with a stinkie. Ecigs are a nic replacement device. It takes longer to get to the same level of nic into you that you got when you smoked. Do what the other posters suggest and up the nic for those craving moments. The good thing is there is no smell(or hardly one) to the ecig, so sneak a drag or two when at work. If you hold it in long enough, there will be no vapor to exhale.

Let us know how you are doing.

:)

Thanks everyone for your responses. I do have 24 mg of regular "tobacco" flavor that I'm mixing with the 18 mg of flavors. I guess it's just trial and error. I get scared seeing all these elaborate things on here and looks so complicated to me. I'm looking to reduce how much I spend on smoking and not increasing it with another addiction (like buying lots of vape supplies I will never use). Just something plain and simple. I see there is a whole culture out there of vaping and it's cool...but there has to be something for the average person that just wants to quit regular smoking and try something different to overcome the habit.

It is only as expensive as you make it. Common sense tells us to have at least one backup of everything you have. Do you know what you would do if your battery broke? Would you smoke again? Defeating all of the success you have already obtained? As long as you are happy with what you are using, that is all that matters. No need to keep up with the Jones here. To each their own. Not everyone has an easy time making the transition to vaping. Any cigarette not smoked is a victory......

Hi and welcome. Like you I am not into tinkering or complicated stuff. I think the secret is to get the "battery style" you feel comfortable with in your hand, liquid/juice that you like the flavor of and some tanks that perform well for you. I started with the EVOD starter kit and it was plenty sufficient. I had some juice I liked. It wasn't perfectly satisfying to me, because the tanks leaked easily, I was advised to start at 18 mg (1 and a half pack a day Marlboro Red smoker). Moving up to 24 mg nic made a huge difference to me. Also, quite quickly replacing the tanks that came with the EVOD (they were nothing but trouble to me, a tinkerer's dream), this helped me too. At a couple points I bought 36 mg. nic but very seldom use it and am now looking at buying the same juice at a lower level and mixing with the 36 to make 24 which I am happy with. Only been at it a couple months now. Feeling very satisfied because I've found ONE ADV (all day vape--one you could just do all the time, a cinnamon bun flavor) and another 10 or so that I am happy to switch out with from time to time so that I don't become tired of this lovely ADV I crave. The only tinkering I do is refilling my tanks with juice, and probably every couple weeks rinsing out my tanks, and replacing the coil/wick unit. I laboriously "save and label" the old ones thinking one day I might ....MIGHT... have a need (like "not enough money for the month") to replace the wicks on them and learn how to clean and "dry burn" the coils.

I assure you, you don't have to do a lot of "complicated stuff". My current equipment, however, consists of about 6 iSmoka mega BCC tanks, another 6 iSmoka BCC minis, and 3 Kanger II glass since I like a lot of flavors that require glass. I have given up on the Kangers for now and when I start buying equip again it will probably be Davide instead. I have the mini tanks because I don't "drip" if I want to taste flavors I put the new ones in the small tanks and vape about a half a tank.

My 4 (yes 4, I enjoy having about 4 ready to go flavors with me during the day) battery units are a Twist, 2 Spinners and an iTaste SVD. And I have duplicate chargers for the batteries. To me it seems like a lot of equipment, but believe me (knock wood) so far it all has been trouble free and GREAT GREAT FUN. Good luck to you!

Hello, Welcome, and Congrats! You're doing great in that you bought the ecig! It's true, you need one more back-up so you will have it when the one you're using needs charged. I was a 33yr smoker and I weaned off cigs while vaping. It did not take long before I was cig free completely, like 2 weeks. Don't worry about the other gear out there, if what you have works then you have the perfect set-up. Good luck and Happy vaping! :vapor:

Hmmm. Well over a year after I got my first rig I am now only close to stinky free. From 2.5 pack a day to 10 in the last 3 days. You don't have to quit, perhaps cutting back. Even one not smoked is helping. You're doing pretty darn good.

My fall back is a disposable, White Cloud. I am determined NOT to buy any more smokes. Only 10 left...

Just thought of this. Look up my first post, I was pretty freaked too.

I know you already got a device, but you'll definitely need back up's!!
may I suggest THIS? They look very elegant too (they're stainless in color ... not gold as they look in the pic)

I just received this myself (after having sampled some other mods) and really really like the Evod variable voltage batteries with the Kanger mini tanks. These last approx 4-6 hours individually (depends on vaping habit).
Very easy to use, when the coils/heads go bad you can simply replace them (most likely the best price for genuine Kanger coils).
Or once you get more comfortable, there is the option to clean the coils/heads , replace wicks and so forth (I generally don't bother, because I like to keep it simple with very little time input).
After a while you might like a bigger mod with longer lasting batteries, or maybe something that doesn't look top heavy with a bigger tank.
Once you got a set up that you like, the only continuing expense is the liquids and the coils/heads.

I used a local version of RY4 to quit analogs....it's a really nice tobacco flavor with a hint of caramel...so good. Started at 18 mg and now down to 6 mg. Find your sweet spot, find your flavors. I used an inexpensive eGo when quitting then moved up a bit and the eGo is still my go-to gear. I carry it in my pocket and vape when I can. It helped me to feel like I was just switching methods of nicotine intake rather than giving up smoking.

Congrats on your decision to break the stinkie tobacco habit! for many vaping has become a great way to give up smoking for some it has become a hobby and they look forward to getting the next fancy device to add to their collection, for you you just want to give up killing yourself and want a simple no hassle device, the ciga likes the ones that resemble a regular cigarette are a good start and if your a little shy about vaping in public these are less conspicuous and go virtually unnoticed.

I came across e-cigs because of the work I do, I make props for Theater and a show required an actor to smoke, most US state laws do not allow tobacco to be smoked live on stage, so I purchased a ciga like, when the show was over I decided to try it, and it helped me alot, but eventually I wanted something a little more efficient, I chose an Ego battery and a simple cartomizer Joyetech eGo-T 1000mAh USB Battery http://www.bestecig.com/help.asp?id=60 and some e-juice, my fave atm is Flavorz by Joe RY4X4 its delicious!
This system is very adequate and pretty much hassle free, you will need to replace eventually over time.
I use an Elego Twist 1300mah and Smok Pyrex Tank with wicks nothing special but I have customized it a little and I think it looks sexy DSCF8090.jpg :)

Good luck!

A month ago all I knew was cigalikes just didn't cut it for me. I took the plunge with a setup much like yours. 2 weeks I I got a set of bigger batteries with a voltage adjustment on them and some better tanks. I have stepped down from 24mg to 12mg and couldn't be happier. Take it slow and do what feels right for you. If you haven't found a B&M "Brick and Mortar store" I would suggest you try to fund one, many of them allow you to sample flavors before you buy. Vape on
