I've been looking at the genisis derjuf does...with lathe access (which I have) it looks totally do-able (I wouldn't do it out of brass washers, thinking aluminium, I have a buddy that knows an anodizer, SS would be nice but SS is a real ..... and hard on the tools) but hats off to him for throwing it out there for those who don't have a lathe...plus his pictorial is awesome (saved the series).

I could never wrap my head around what scubadan was talking about (derjuf fixed that)...as far as the Ody goes, I've re-built countless ce2's, (it was all my buddy would use) believe me, the Ody's a treat comparatively, I just use blow torch purified ceramic wick (silica and fiberglass, got lots, want some?), ceramic is little brittle to work with but it's so worth the once a week PITA factor...1.8ohm's worth of 36 awg (.13) kanthal wrapped around the center .5 cm's of 5 cm's of ceramic wick, I keep 4-5 ready made in my little pill bottle, I re-built it in the car once (wife was driving, lol)...though if I had some 400 mesh SS I'd love to try it in the Ody... apparently it has a halflife of forever with zero taste...now that I'm thinking about it, off to the official Ody thread, someone has to have tried it...

Just thinking, seeing as this thread has gone waaay off topic anyway:)...do you wrap the SS mesh around wick material or just make a tube out of it? I recall seeing one of Scuba's vids of him making one of his wicks and don't remember seeing any fiber in it, just him torching the middle to build up some carbon to stop the coil from shorting...

poland, and the brassy lands of google
I'm a big fan of one part having dual functions. However, from the one video I watched on the Ody, the wick aids the kanthal in isolating it when you screw down that cover part (hope you know what I mean). With SS mesh that looks difficult to achieve. Also bending the SS wick with two 90 degree bends would be hard not to kink and then it wouldn't wick properly. Also, it should be just a tube of SS mesh, not with silica in the center, from those that have tried the mix, they have said it wasn't as good. With the mix, you could have a small piece of SS mesh just in the cup.

I'm giving it a go with DerJuf's mini alu atty from his pipe mod, minimal turning required:

I know exactly what you mean asdaq, which is why I'm having a hard time wrapping my head around how one manages to wrap a coil around something that conducts without it shorting all over the place but people manage to do it:), I guess until I try it myself...I've even thought about wrapping a coil around multiple pieces of fiber optic strand to see if capillary action would allow it to wick effectively, isn't that what the SS mesh is essentially doing?...I have access to tons of fiber optic cable, you know, instead of thinking about it...
