Touching Coils?

I am looking to build my first micro-coil and was wondering if it's ok to have coil wraps touching each other? What will happen?

Touching coils is the whole idea behind micro coils, so you'll be fine.

Touching is completely fine, just don't overlap them.

Yes. Wrap them so they are touching.

When building a micro-coil, all of the coils should be touching, but not overlapping. You'll want to use a screwdriver or nail to get all of the coils nice and even and to ease the process of bringing them together. From my experience, it's important to make sure you torch the coils while holding them together as that'll ensure they stay in position. Without the torching, they could spring away from each other.

Thanks for the answers. One more thing, How can I pull some silica through the microcoil once it's built?

You can attach it to some leftover Kanthal and use that to pull it through or use a needle and pull it through

You should also try using cotton as a wick, it's much easier to use with micro coils, imo.

I use either a small precision screw driver or a small machine screw to wrap on, then I squeeze the coils together with tweezers and torch till it glows. Then they'll stay together perfectly
