You got to be kidding me. And they are doing it to see how many kids are using them, and if people really do like the flavors. 
I'm no Twit-terer
Twitter is the #1 absolute best resource for information in hundreds of disciplines. For all of my news I use Twitter, Drudge and ECF.
I have 100 Twitter lists over all sorts of technologies that would be impossible to study otherwise. I'm being 100 accurate and totally honest when I say that I can't even begin to describe the amount of data that crosses my desk from following more than 4,500 accounts from NASA, SpaceX, military, strategic policy, vaping, global - national and local news, athletics, physics, computer science, singularity - AI, python programming, DevOps, VMware, Microsoft - Linux - Unix...to name a FEW columns I watch daily.
Ignorance is bliss... keep poking around on single issue websites.
For "Strategic Policy" alone, that one column, has 700, SEVEN HUNDRED, US Military accounts and news on US Allies. For "Vaping" the number is more modest, yet far more active than ECF on certain topics.
When I said 4,500 accts being followed it is a "current" following number, but in all of my lists it would be like getting news from 25,000+ resources.
In ECF, ONE PERSON posts, and maybe 25 follow up over 24hrs to a week. I get that much news in 15 seconds, in 5 columns and I follow 15+ columns at once out of the 100+ that I have.

I've got 10yrs before I hit 65, and I doubt I slow down in retirement. I'm voracious for info and have been since at least '93.

I need more news than a headline typed in 140 characters or less, on a site where the top Followed "tweeters" are Katy perry and Justin beiber.
You follow ONLY ppl you want to follow, and NO, I do not follow Katy or Justin.
The 140 char are to give you the concept and a link. In Direct Messages, you can be as prolific as you want and write a book.
I've bookmarked many hundreds of sites for systems administration, worked on a document read to the US Congress with Beibert from A Billion Lives, and chat daily with US astronauts.
I have direct feeds from 6 major news outlets, relevant finacial information direct.
Set up as I needed, one at a time.
No middle man.
I'm too busy being retired for extra clutter.

I think you don't know or want to know how Twitter works, and that's fine, I got the message.
In just ONE Twitter list I have 700, US Military direct links. But if 6 suits you then fine.
I have a Twitter account, I never tweet anything, and have no idea what I'm doing with it. But hey, all the cool kids have it!
