LoL. No worries.

It took me a bit to separate how I post on VF with how I post here. There's good and bad in both, TBH. I like VF for it's completely open, no-holds-barred feel, but a lot of times I'll escape here when the Drama just gets a little too great.

I would also point out that stuff like this would NEVER happen on VF. The cynicism runs too deep.
Thank you for the comments Chaos. I do remember that you mentioned having to distinguish between want and need. I had to learn that myself and today's society doesn't help any with the buy it now mentality. I'm not trying to be insulting, just direct. Pretty much everybody here takes the GG family idea very seriously and I'm not the only one to see that post. The questions, while very direct, were shared by more than myself and your points are good ones I'll admit. Being a retired cop I've seen money schemes played whereby the poor victim of some tragedy makes their bad situation known to a group of sympathetic individuals who, in their good hearts, pay for all kinds of things for the "victim". I'm not saying you're doing this so don't get me wrong here. That's the cop in me and I wanted to see your response.

It was actually refreshing to see that you didn't flame me in your response. And you're right about the language there. I thought about joining and having it as another resource but I just don't need to pollute my mind with that kind of talk. It's already polluted enough with some of the things I've had to deal with in the past.

It's actually funny that you mention having to separate how you post here as opposed to there. I wondered that myself, thinking, "I wonder if he has to think twice about what forum he is posting on to make sure the language is appropriate".

I have to say though, you seem to be well spoken. You know how to construct a "whole sentence" and your spelling, grammar and punctuation is very good. Why lower yourself with such talk? Actually if you posted over there like you do here you'd stand head and shoulders above the others. Best to stand out for the good as opposed to the bad. No need to comment on that, just food for thought.

I also must say that I saw several regulars from ECF posting at VF and talking as though they had a gutter where their mouth should be. First thought in my mind always is "and you kiss your momma with that mouth"? But I'm old fashioned I guess.

It's a question of a common language. What's appropriate in one place isn't necessarily appropriate somewhere else. VF is really fun! I really recommend it for a good time. VF is like the vaping Party, ECF is like the vaping Business Convention, kinda. I've got a lot of buddies that post across both. You know at least one of them, my filthy hippie friend RippleInStillWater. BikerGirl1908 is another, my girl Kim.

But to answer the first part, I've learned to reread almost everything I type before hitting the 'Post' button on ECF. I've been exclusive to VF for about 6 months until a few weeks ago, and old habits are hard to break. :panda:

I'll agree, I'm a child of the 50's. It's not what goes into a persons mouth that defiles them, it's what comes out.

Yes, I know ripple, thanks a lot buddy! Trying to support GG in VF is not easy at all

The problem with VF is that they wanted to start a forum that everyone could say anything freely. Not bad at all. I support free language and humor. I do humor more that the apropriate in my life and sometimes I see that people feel uncomfortable. Then its time to stop it. But VF turned out on a place that everyone insults everyone and that is not a free language and its not humor. Its just sick. You have to be clever to do humor and you have to be silly to insult people. Imagine a person that insults people and he likes it. Now imagine a person that he likes to beat people. Is this ok too? Or people are hiding behind the keyboard and in a real situation they run away? If you like to be a crafty guy then you have to accept any chalenge and not to pick chalenges. If you pick chalenges then you are foxy and a poor person. You go only where its easy for you. Its easy to have 2 eyes and to be a commander in a place where all the rest have only one eye or they are totally blind.
Keeping your mouth shut when the situation requires it its not easy. And unfortunately nice things in life are not easy too.

Agreed dspin my friend. I am a child of the early 50's so my ideals are old school and not so much in fashion. Doesn't mean I am shocked by it. After the stuff I saw and dealt with for 27 years in law enforcement, I sadly saw about all that could be seen. The difference for me is that I choose to be who and what I am. I try not to offend or push my old school ways on people but that doesn't mean I accept a different standard either.

I prefer the way things are handled here. Debating the merits of a product or innovation doesn't have to end up in a drama session and the GG forum is living proof of that. I have seen on the other forum mentioned that if an unpopular opinion can't be screamed or cursed down, it is just smothered with pages and pages of useless text. As I say, I have had enough drama in my life on matters of life and death to enjoy drama justs for the heck of it. :)

I'll agree with that. I don't push my ways on people in the forums,I just keep quiet. In the outside world, now that's different. However, I don't accept the new standard way people behave. A simpler time when men were gentelmen and women were ladies is what I yearn for.

Yeah guys I think one of the things I notice now more than the past (maybe because I am not able to get out very often) but there seems to be zero respect for others opinions online. It didn't seem to be this bad even 6-8 years ago.

Now it's as Imeo said. Too many "keyboard heroes" that would wilt from the heat of a candle in the real world but feel omnipotent and without regard for anyone else when hiding behind a keyboard. Many don't seem to accept or understand that their word or the words they use are all they are known by online.

Ah well, I am sounding like an old guy again... I guess it's okay since I really am old though!

I dunno, Major. I've been online since the BBS', and there was never that much respect. I think it's a function of human psychology. Remove the social consequences of bad behavior and people tend to act without morals.

Of course, then there's the other side, the people who can create a real feeling of community across the interwebz. I've made some really good friends online, too.

Agreed on the friends gained. You sound like me on the BBS days. I recall getting a 1200 baud modem and thought how could it get faster than this? I met a local running a BBS in 1994 and we've been real life friends since so I wasn't trying to say the net is inherently bad.

Looking back to the BBS days, things were different and not just the speed. Most were run by local or regional operators who recognized that failure to maintain a semblence of order resulted in their hobby or small business suffering. With the advancement of technology, things have become much more anonymous and there seems to be a greater number of weak willed souils that feel unreachable behind a screen.

But we can't have it both ways. It is inevitable with the advance in tech that there are some negatives but I wouldn't trade the advances for having to put up with the negatives. I just don't go where things are acceptable that I personally find useless. Sort of like anything else a person doesn't enjoy - Simply don't go where you feel uncomfortable. A far better solution than having any regulatory body trying to legislate or mandate certain levels of behavior.

We either monitor our own levels of behavior or you can expect big brother to do it for you. Regardless of what I spent my adult life doing for a living, I still believe in personal choice and personal responsibility. ;)

Yeah it really is sad the way that people dont respect and love each other nowadays, all it takes is a little bit of kindness and that goes a long way. The other day I was walking out of Mcdonalds and I saw an elderly couple walking towards the door so I waited and held the door for them and as the man got to the door he said " There are very few of you guys left" and that is just sad ya know. At first glance I might be judged because I am sleeved out in tattoos and have big plugs in my ears so I kinda go above and beyond to try and show that not all of us are jerks. I have a certain respect for my elders and dont get extra brave because I am behind a keyboard, I try to be a good person and be kind to people but if I am being honest I talk like a sailor.

edit; I surf VF because it is entertaining to me but dont really post because I dont like how mean everybody is to each other, the swearing thing obviously does not bother me its the blatent disrespect for one another. Not trying to bash, just how I see it.

All people are the same, they all need same things. The best way to see if you are an .......le is to put yourself in the same position as the man who suffers or got insulted. Then you will understand that if you were at the same situation you wouldnt like it at all.

When you are strong all are ok. But in some time or some way maybe you will become one of the weak ones. Then it will be not so nice for you seeing the strong ones fooling you.

Power has to be treated with respect and knowledge. And if you want to see what kind of person someone really is you can give him money and power. Most of people will become jerks quick and easy.
