Sorry i hadn't seen this before now. The first Reporters questions,Andrea Bruce, about what the FDA may do.................

NATIONWIDE INSURANCE COMPANY

It doesn't make good reading.

Some of the shipments that we refused contain multiple products. In terms of
domestic action we are actively considering all of our enforcement options for
future action both against the imported e-cigarettes and at this point we think
that all e-cigarettes are imported and against the domestic distributors of the
imported cigarettes.

Yeah there was a lot of weirdness on here that didn't make sense, almost like they were scared of telling the truth, but congrats to them they didn't.

The technical annalysis raised an eyebrow for me I'll admit. And it would have stayed raised if it weren't for one statement from this board of speakers that I am pretty certain is a bold faced lie:

I have NEVER EVER EVER EVER EVER seen ANY, and I mean even the shadiest of e-cig manufactuers, EVER advertise electronic cigarettes as an entry device for getting 'into' nicotine. EVER! Nor have I EVER seen any advertisement targeting children outside of this unproven claim that because its flavored it will attract children. As a matter of fact I have never even seen an e-cigarette user advocate e-cigarettes in this way. Not ever. I have only ever seen them used as an alternative. In fact I have only rarely seen even the vaguist mention of cessation. Cessation from cigarettes maybe, but not from tobbaco. More often than that I've only seen them marketed as a way to smoke without producing smoke so you can sit in a New York bar and puff away, which frankly seemed stupid and impatient to me anyhow.

Frankly if they want to take away the flavors thats fine, and if they regulate the nicotine levels hell I might like that too, espicially if they would guarantee I get the same amount of nicotine with every puff, so long as they aren't banned.

But this bothers me a great deal. I'm not opposed to the idea that there may be things in here that are harmful, fine. But if so, FDA, you have a case. You have a reasonable claim to investigation. So WHY are you lying?? Any kind of public support for you will not come from me if you have to lie to get media attention.

Why haven't any of the media outlets asked for details on the findings?!? I guess they just trust the summary that Nick Westenberger wrote about the results of the study?

Questions that should have been asked:
The harmful substances found such as nitrosamines and Ethylene Glycol, are they found in other products on the market? or Are the concentrations at which they were found approved by the FDA in other products / foods? Does the FDA have guidelines for the chemicals and substances found in electronic cigarettes?

I would have loved to read about an FDA official stumble over such a question. Who knows, perhaps one of the media sources had a question like this but was screened out by the operator?
