I work on a survey vessel 5 weeks on 5 off, about to travel where I will be working in Mexcio's waters (Gulf of Mexico)... and this will be my first time away with vaping gear.... Mod, ejuice etc...

What's the latest with getting on flights with Mods and e-juice?

Are there any airports you can vape in? I've heard Heathrow allow you to vape anywhere, is this true??

Also, is it safe to vape in a hotel bathroom, to save having to go outside or setting alarms off?!

Any help would be appreciated,

thanks in advance :)

I've never had any problems with flying. Seems like TSA is well aware of vaping gear. Just do all of the right things: no batteries in checked luggage, 3 oz bottles of liquids in quart baggies, etc. For 5 weeks you will likely have to carry some liquid in checked bags.

Vaping in airports is usually only in smoking areas, although I have done it discreetly in other areas.

Hotels. If you are tootle puffing you can likely do it anywhere without setting off alarms. Certainly you can do it in bathrooms. Some have recommended shower caps over the smoke detectors.

I travel for work and I just ask the front desk if it is all right to vape in the room, window open if need be. Here they said it was alright as it does not stink like analogs do. I asked first for my unflavored and then asked about the flavored. With the flavored, they just asked if I could just air it out a bit before I checked out. Worst they say is no. As far as airports, that I am not aware of as yet but yes, there is a thread on vape friendly airports here in ecf.

I always vape in hotels :) I mean, in my hotel room not in the hallways etc. And I have never set 1 fire alarm of, keep in mind that I am not cloudchasing in hotels, just a little mouth-to-lung / holding it in then exhale.

I had all my vape stuff in my carry on in small separate bag. Extra batteries were in plastic cases and the juice was in 30ml (3oz.) bottles. I kept batteries in my mods just in case to show them it worked. I also made sure all bottles had labels.

I flew out of San Francisco and landed in the Dominican Republic with no issues.

P.S.
Refer to all your stuff as e-cigarette and if you have any tanks make sure there empty before you take off or all the juice will leak out due to cabin pressure changing

Thanks for all your help. Seems to me the only immediate issue now is having to empty the tank before getting on the plane or even going through security as all liquids are meant to be in bottles. So I'd have to vape then empty it, perhaps back into a spare bottle for reuse at the other end. Either that or I pack it all away beforehand and use normal cigarettes while travelling to save the hassle but that's going to defeat the purpose of using the vaping to come off the cigs. Decisions decisions lol

Is there any great need to remove the 'toxic' labels from the e-juice? I've seen a few web-sites saying the security guys don't have any issues with the vape gear or juice and it's even sold in the air-side at Heathrow's T4 in the vaping area/shop which incidentally where I am passing through tomorrow. The shop there is even selling 16mg juice so there's obviously no worries about taking nicotine juices onto aircraft even though toxic materials are on the list of restricted items for yaking on aircraft!

Chameleon67, you can just put your tanks and e-juice bottles in the quart zip-lok with the other liquids when you go through security. I then take the tanks out of that zip-lok and place them in another by themselves. They'll still leak quite a bit, but at least your e-liquid won't get all over your other liquid containers. You can take them out, wipe them down thoroughly, then top them off when you get to your layover or destination.

Thanks Larry J, yes that's my plan. I have 2 tanks which I haven't totally managed to empty out using a bottle, so I will put them into seperate smaller zip-lock bags and put them in the bag with the other small bottles of liquid. I also have a load of wet wipes with me to assist in cleaning them off although I'll try conserving them by using one of the airport toilet facilites to dry them off :)

That's interesting Petefeet and never even thought of that! I will see how it goes then and let you know here. It could be a pain in the neck and easier to just smoke cigs but I'm going to try my best to stick with the vaping when I can. It will certainly be interesting over the next few weeks trying to vape at work. It's all the airport security I'm not looking forward to as they can be a bit random at the best of times

Just joined the forum. Recent experience with airports:

Amsterdam Schiphol: I sat at the cafe, asked waitress if I could vape, she said go ahead. But after 10 minutes another waitress warned me that I could only vape at smoking area.
Ankara Esenboga: I sat at the cafe, asked waitress, she said go ahead, vaped 2 hours (plane delayed).

So I don't know, still some confusion going on at airports.

NO. That's not true. :)

YES. You can vape in most indoor places without setting off alarms or stinking the room out. Just be careful with sub-ohm clouds. I vape at 15w close to a fire alarm at work. Either 15w doesn't set it off, or my work bought cheap fire alarms. :D

30ml is like nowhere near 3 ounces lol. I think it's like 1 oz

I don't dump my tank. I just put it in a zip lock bag in the quart bag with my other liquids. My liquids bag is packed with toothpaste, mouth wash, deodorant, sample sized tester products, etc. they never notice the filled tank among the other stuff. I'm paranoid about my bag not making it to my final destination with me, so take 3 days worth of clothes and products as carry on...
