Trend/fad?

Way too early to say. It's always possible something better will come along.
Then again, I remember the long speech I got from my boss in 1996 when I quit to go work for a web startup, talking about how the Internet was a fad, and I'd be crawling back in 6 months.

See, I've been seeing "e-cigs" for a few years now (i think) and alot of people have invested ALOT in it, I'd hate to see just go south, because it WAS a fad/trend
Eh... Disco was a 'fad' and its still alive and kicking, if you know where to look for it. There's definitely a fad factor going on right now -- but thats a good thing in most respects; we're getting noticed. It means more engineering and technical knowledge can come our way for marketing new products -- and we might see even faster innovation than the last year has held. However, just because something is a 'fad' or 'trendy' doesn't also negate its value of its own merits. Yes, people are more and more moving to ecigs and the market is starting to blossom, and as a result more smokers are moving to it as they see the crowd doing it. But to boil it down to it being 'the hip thing to do' is a gross oversimplification. The reality is, these are people that have already made the choice to smoke, who have been presented with an alternative that allows them to enjoy the aspects of their habit, while discarding 99% of the aspects that they did not -- if its hip to make a logical choice, I'll be a hipster anytime 
Well I am of the anno's now, so cant see me going back as I need my nicotine so vaping is here to stay

Yes its a fad that we're all doing to save our lives that we actively do every 10 to 15 minutes that we'll probably be addicted to for the rest of our lives just like we'd be addicted to cigarettes the rest of our lives if we hadn't found vaping. Sure. I carry around and suck on a 6 inch tube with an inch and a half tank on top at bars and parties to look cool and trendy for the ladies.

I remember when i first started seeing them around, I saw some guy get the snot beat out of him for vaping inside a nightclub...all because some girl said" ewwwww gross"....If that's trendy...Were all doomed!
