Tried a catch liquorice snus last week. Is this how it's supposed to be used/taste?

Bought this snus last week.

Being a noobie, the experience was pretty unpleasant. I stuffed it between my upper lips and gum as instructed. Nothing happened. So I placed it in my tongue for a while and stuff it back up.

Gosh. I felt like I had a nicotine overdose. Ulcers started appearing the next day. Drank lots of water. Still felt sick.

Is that how you are supposed to use snus? Have not touched it for the rest of the week.

    Somewhere between here and there
You want to keep it in between the lip and gum. The catch licorice are white portions which means they are kinda dry. I usually take a drink of water to wet the portion when first placing it. As far as feeling sick from it, were you vaping near the time you used the portion? If not then you might want to start with a lower nic content snus like general mini mints or something. The catch licorice is 8mg per portion and the mini mints are 4mg. I use the catch licorice quite often and have never gotten sick from it. I also tend to put the portion as far back as I can above the rear molars but some people use it closer to the front.

I guess it may take some time to get used to it. Wasn't vaping. In fact, had no desire for any nicotine absorption after that.

You are right in that it felt kinda dry. I guess I did something wrong, somewhere. It felt really awful.

I don't think you did anything wrong Papa G. I would guess it was the dry portions. Maybe take a spray bottle and spray the portions with some water in the can to moisten them, and give you're mouth a couple days to heal and try it again? I would use just enough water to moisten the top layers in the can, too much and you'll have a lot of juice running down you're throat.

Don't get down on yourself, we'll be here for ya.

Did you put the portion in front or on the side? I put mine just behind the canine on top.

Hey thanks for the advice. I placed them in between my upper lip and gum. Let me try it again in a few days. Ulcers still hurt.

I don't know if Ulcers are the right word for what you have. The first snus I tried was camel frost. I did get blisters on the first snus I tried. Almost scared me away from the whole snus thing. Fortunately I'm dense enough in that I tried it again. No problems after that.

You might be having a reaction to the salt in Swedish snus. It can take a while for your gums to toughen up a bit. Everyones body chemistry is different so go slow and work into it.

The only thing "wrong" was placing it on your tongue. For reasons a doctor might be able to explain, the tongue really absorbs nicotine differently. That's why the nicotine hit from the new Camel Strips is sizable while each strip only has 1mg of nic. Many testers, myself included, have reported that only the strip packs a wallop. I can't explain why.

I have never put snus between lip and gum. The portion always goes off to one side or the other, between a cheek and gum. The lip location, to me, is uncomfortable -- and I do not care one whit whether I increase saliva. In fact, that's a good thing since I'm always drying out my mouth with vapor from e-smoking.

I had a similar experience when I started with the Camel mellow. It felt like my gums were always sore and raw for the first week or so. After finding the sub-forum here, I switched over to Swedish and in a few months, I don't even get the old "burning" sensation from the stronger mint/wintergreen flavors that I did at the beginning... Now it's just pure nico-satisfaction and plenty of taste.

Don't let the bad experience deter you. As others have said, you might consider switching to smaller portions (or cutting regular portions in half). The white portions were harder on me at first too and keeping my mouth well hydrated helped get me over that "sandpaper" feeling.

The forum here is full of incredibly helpful folks who will chime in and help get you pointed in the right direction and time you have a question. Good luck to you!
