Do you have enough wire at the top to double it from the wick to the center pole?
That should take care of the top wire hot spot BlackChad. How long u had this setup?
Sometimes if its just 1 coil heating up, it'll fix itself after a day or so.
If it doesn't, try the loop method. You could also try oxisizing your wick a bit more.
If you can slide it out, slide it up a bit and torch the top then slide it back down.

I'll try the double trick at work tonight and let you know. I also have access to a torch there so I will torch instead of a ton of blue flame lighter.

I'm also reading the blog entries right now so thank you for that. Very informative so far.

I just got this aga today. Spent about 9 hours with it so far. When I make the wick it fits just like the videos I watched. Not too tough to get in at all but doesn't drop on its own. But after I wrap it it seems to snug up to one side. Does it have to always touch all sides of the wick hole or does it matter?

Thank you guys very much

It's working like a dream now. I haven't had any hot spots while firing at all, loads of vapor and the flavor is exquisite. My only question at this point is how do you guys change flavors? Can I dump the liquid back in the bottle and work another flavor in on the same wick and coil?

Method: The way I ended up doing it is the rolling paper method, I would put a little liquid on a tiny piece of rolling paper, wrap it around my wick, wrap the wire around with a 3-4 wrap coil while it's outside the tank, drop it in the tank and dry fire it work out hotspots with my paper clip that I use for the deoxidization process until they all glow uni-formally. Then I'll sit there and put a couple drops on the top and burn it to make sure it's not hotspotting while firing and fill the tank up. Breaking it in I was always worried about getting a puff of 200 degree air, but now it's working incredible.

You could also double or triple the 60 nichrome. It will lower the resistance and make the coil thicker. I loop a long length (around my dining room chair wooden top) then shove the other ends into my drill...put a bit in to hold the wire in the drill and then run it. Will keep twisting until the twist is 1-2mm apart.

I've been vaping 2 years now and finally got a AGA T2 genesis style atty. I'm using nichrome 60, 27 ohms/ft wire. and 400 mesh. I've been going at it for 2 or 3 hours now and the only thing I've been able to get is the top portion of the top of the coil leading to the positive post to be the only part that gets hot and just snaps. I've dropped the voltage increased the voltage, pulled the wick closer to the post using the drill bit method, followed several videos, tried Scubabatdan's rolling paper method. I want to get this down so I can switch from wicks and poly fill to get a truer flavor and better vape, but I just can't get it to work no matter how hard I try. My ONLY guess that I have at this point is the wire is too thin maybe?

I simply can not get this .... to work. I'm ready to melt it with thermite and be done with it.

I just went through this last night! (Albeit with Kanthal and a DiD)

on my AGA-T+ I put one layer of PTFE plumbers tape around the wick where it sits in the wick hole.
Really reduces hot spots...unoxidized stainless steel wick
Dave Dorn on Vapour Trails TV used cling wrap (like Saran Wrap I think).

never heard of that one before.

Done, issue is gone as far as I can tell. Now I'm having a weird issue of it tasting burnt. It may be the flavor, this one has maple in it. Gen's shouldn't be doing that. This is both a rewarding :toast: step forward and a frustrating one.

To changed the flavor can i just work in another flavor or change everything? Just curious

A LOT of people do say maple flavors tend to taste burnt when it comes to vaping.
They are light, and that light flavor might allow the natural taste of whatever your using add to the flavor.
To change a flavor in my genesis devices, I just use a syringe to take out the 1 thats in it,
& then I put a new flavor in. After 10 or so hits the old flavor will be completely taken over in my ex.

I struggled and struggled with my Aga-T - I even gave up on it for a few weeks. Then I watched this video using the Petar K Method for wrapping coils and NOT oxidizing the mesh (The Petar K Method - YouTube), followed along, and presto - perfect coil and fantastic vape. FYI, I'm using 30g A-1 Kanthal and 400 SS mesh. I had to fiddle with my wrap after inserting the wick quite a bit more than the guy in the video did, but I still was able to complete setup in about 20 minutes.

Why does everything that seems to work require a drill bit that I do not have *sigh* I am about to sell my aga t+ because the full day of working on it and having a hot spot in the same spot between the wick and the positive center post, the taste and vapor difference from my cartos and attys cant be worth all this trouble.

drill bit is not required. i actually have never gotten that method to work for me. just wrap it by hand and install it. you can actually pulse the hot spot out.
