Disclaimer: I really did look in the archives as I know this has to be covered but could not find it.

Ok, I have two Svomesto/kayfun V4 clones and really like them a lot. What I do not like is the trouble I'm having getting the wires to stay under the screw heads. Is there a trick? I'm using mostly Kanthal 28 Gauge A-1 wire.

Any tips would be much appreciated. I've watched the videos and no one seems to have the difficulty I'm having.

Wrap the coil (over or under the mandrel) so that the tails are naturally 'aimed' at the 6 o'clock point of the screws. Continue this natural direction by wrapping the tails around the screw shanks in a clockwise direction, so that when you tighten the screws, the tail tip is 'pulled' clockwise.

Use whatever mandrel you're using, or a same diameter substitute, to aid in keeping the coil stable and undamaged.

Hold the coil / mandrel in your desired position in tension against the screw shanks, so that... when you've wrapped the tails 'round the screws, the tails are continuously pressed firmly into the screw shank by the application of light pressure to the mandrel.

I have small hands and I find it difficult. I think the deck is way too small. I use my thumb nails to slip the wires between Those screws that are too close in my opinion. I've also used a micro flat screwdriver. I use 28 gauge as well. It will work but it's tight. What I do is wrap the wire COMPLETELY around the tiny screw. This way it doesn't slip and I get good contact. It usually hangs up at the point where the two deck screws are close. That's when I use my nail or a flat micro screwdriver to pass the wire between the screws. Are you building double or single coil? If your doing a single, you can also remove and store the second set of deck screws. This will give your deck room to work on it now. Hope this helps. Let me know. Best wishes.
