Police: E-cigarette malfunction causes personal injury crash

Please correct me if you know something that I do not. I won't get upset, I like learning new things. :)

batteries use DC, your car uses DC. AC has nothing to do with this story and was wrongly put on the last graphic in the video. Converting it from 12V to 5V is not usually the issue. The issue is usually the charge rate or charger malfunction. Wall adapters and car adapters have the charge rate printed on them. Using a 5V 500ma adapter is identical to using a USB port on a computer.

Sitting down, facing forward.
Let's see...blame the e-cig and not the person using the e-cig, probably improperly. All of the "exploding e-cig" stories I've seen eventually lead to the fact that the user was using or charging them improperly. I wonder how many cell phones have gone up in smoke? How about laptops? I remember a bunch of Sony laptops that had a problem like that. Funny, no one points at them and tries to ban cell phones or laptops, but that doesn't fit the narrative.

I saw this on the news last night, I wish there was more information about what he was using.
Of course my non vaping husband perked up and was like, "is that what you use?" o_O "No, mine is regulated" husband "so will yours blow up too? When are you going to stop?" :grr: "I need the rest of the story, but as of right now I'm not worried, and you don't need to worry either."

It would be nice to know what type he was using and where it came from, headlines likeI this without the whole story just make it bad for the rest of us.I hope the driver is ok and I'm glad no one was hurt, but I hope there is a follow up to this.

Personally, i have never plugged any kind of adapter into my truck .... nor into my computer. Those adaptors are usually cheapie stuff from PRC and not something I want to depend on.

I use a powered usb hub for everything. Or a wall adapter plugged into a separately powered charging strip.

BECAUSE I had a wall adapter blow up in a wall socket, (ego type battery) with the attendant electrician's bill. (and yes, he tested the wall adapter, it was bad, not my house or wall socket wiring). Thankfully my cirucuit breakers tripped and turned everything off, like they're supposed to. :) But the outlet was badly blackened from the smoke and sparks.
