No reason why not, as long as the 14650 is a regular Li-ion or a protected Li-ion, or an IMR or hybrid. Sounds like an unusual cell, the more common size is 14500.

The TR1 will charge any 3.7 volt Li-ion type rechargeable battery (3.7v and 3.6v cells are the same). It will charge to about 4.21 volts fully-charged. It won't reboot a cell that has been discharged too low, so take your battery out of the APV before it gets too low. At around 3.4v is a good choice as this prolongs battery life, though it may be possible to go down to 3v or lower.

Don't use it for a 3.3v Li-FePO4 cell though, it will damage them.

The Trustfire TR-001 is a crappy charger. Don't let anyone tell you otherwise. I used the TR-001 to charge 14650 batteries back when I used an E-Power (Smoktech) 14650 when I first started vaping. The TR-001 will charge a battery past the safe limit of 4.2V if the battery is left in the charger after the green (charged) light comes on. I have seen it charge to 4.3V. It is a POS charger for any Li-ion battery, including IMR.

The TR-001 will fit an unprotected IMR 14650 easily, but the protected Li-ion 14650 fits tight. I don't recommend either battery with the Trustfire TR-001.

+1 on this ^^

From Baditudes Blog (he's our resident battery/safety expert):

* Battery Chargers. Get the best charger that you can reasonably afford. Statistically most battery incidents occur while charging. Pila, Xtar, and Nitecore Intellicharger are the most recommended brands.

The trustfire tr-001 charger lists all kinds of batteries it will charge, including 14500, but not 14650. They will fit (it's my understanding they are the same length as 18650) but it's not listed. Anyone know before I order some?

In the big picture of batteries the 14650 was rarely used in e-cigs - or much of anything else for that matter. They will fit in a TR-001 fine - but it might take 10-12 hours for them to fully charge as well. The most recent version of the TR-001 is abysmally slow to charge anything much beyond an 18350 battery.

Now that I have advanced in my vaping knowledge I am using the more efficient 18XXX series batteries instead of 14XXX batteries. Battery charging is still the same. The Nitecore, Efest or Pila chargers are much better than the Trustfire chargers. You can pay more for brand names or for extra features like metering that you don't need but look pretty.

14650 was more popular a couple of years ago and is rare today in vaping. The protected 14650 was used in the E-Power 14650 semi-regulated APV. At 1600mAh it was an attractive battery for 3.7V rigs. Times have changed.

Guess you can get a bad 001 charger like you can get a bad anything else. I've been using mine for 4 years and have never had any sort of a problem. AND, I use 14650 IMR batteries all the time. (in a mechanical with RDAs)
Takes the normal 2.5-3 hours to charge one.

An Efest red 14650 IMR is only rated a weak 950 mAh. An Efest red 18500 is rated 1100 mAh.

When it comes to pocket carry for a mod the diameter of a tube APV or tube mod means much less than the length. Thus, a 14650 mod is longer and less desirable than a 18500 that has greater capacity.

I didn't post in this originally because I always feel kind of bad telling them that "that thing you bought sucks" when 90% of the time it just doesn't meet someone's personal standards or image, so what they're saying is about them and not your situation.

In this case, the reason why yzer and such are saying what they're saying is that batteries are basically bombs with protections built-in, and those protections are all dependent on how well-made they are and how they are used. Statistically, a lot of the incidents with batteries are going to happen while they are charging, which is why every company says not to leave them unattended or go to sleep, etc. And Trustfire is viewed with suspicion for a reason -- the statistics. And yes, it sucks that a lot of the starter kits out there will include them, but they do that because they're much cheaper. And if you're careful with it and watch it and don't treat it like a Nicore or something, statistically you'll probably be OK.

But make sure you've paid your renter's insurance. ;)

I got myself a XTAR WP6 II - 6 Bay Charger - AltSmoke. I used the Trustfire TR-001 for about 1.5 years. It did well for me but it came down to needing a 6 bay charger. I have 14 Tanks filled with different liquid and 7 Authentic VTC4 Batteries. So if I get lazy I can burn through 6 batteries and have 1 ready to go and the remaining 6 in the charger :)

Any charger that doesn't stop running voltage through the battery after it's charged will dramatically decrease the life of your battery. Atleast the trustfire I had did. I work at a vape shop and we always make the joke that you can trust that it will cause a fire.

Xtar makes great chargers and they are cheap. It actually made my older batteries that the trustfire ruined useable again.

FYI: the 14650 is making a comeback. Mini nemesis is one but other recent mini's are using it too.

I have the TF 001 and it charges them fine. They take a couple of hours and I don't leave them on the charger.

However if I had it to do over again, I wouldn't buy it. The Nightcore is only $12 on Amazon and there are Xtars even less. I didn't save by $ with the TF.
