In Jan 2009, I spent over $100 and bought a DSE901 mini from PureSmoker. That was the model most people on this forum were recommending for noobs at that time. I gave up on it after about 2 weeks.
  1. Trying to draw on it was like sucking oatmeal through a straw.
  2. It made me cough when the vapor hit my throat. The only way not to cough was not to inhale, a la Clinton.
  3. I was a 2 pack analog smoker at the time, so I bought Marboro cartridges and they tasted nasty.
  4. I could rarely get any visible vapor.
I want to try again, and I want to order while the Memorial Day sales are on. I'm leaning toward the 510 manual. Here are the things that are important to me:
  1. Sorry, I still want something that looks like an analog. I don't want to suck on something that looks like a fat fountain pen or a zippo lighter or whatever. Maybe later after I've gotten past the psychological addiction to smoking, but right now, the asthetics of vaping are going to have to satisfy me or I'll go back to analogs.
  2. Is there anything that's easier to draw on? I understand that I'll need to draw on it longer than with an analog, but I'd like to be able to do it without busting a gut, you should excuse the expression.
  3. I want vapor and lots of it! Like I said, three-fourths of my addiction to analogs is psychological. I like seeing the stupid smoke come out of my mouth. I know it doesn't make sense, but smoking doesn't make sense either.
  4. I'm thinking a manual (those are the ones with buttons, right?) because my old automatic 901 was fairly hard to get going. I don't think pushing a button is going to bother me.
  5. I want to at least start with pre-filled cartridges. I don't want to make vaping a hobby or a time-consuming chore. I just want to be able to lay down the analogs. And I won't be able to do that if I have to fool around with constant, messy dripping of juice. (Juice ... ugh ... that even sounds gross to me. Like spitting chewing tobacco juice or something.)
So having said all of that, is a 510 the way to go? Would you recommend any particular supplier? (Or is that not permitted?)

Yes the manuals are the ones with buttons. And I would recommend that. You control your draw much more than you can with automatic batteries.

But that's about the only one of your questions I can answer. You would not be happy with the devices I am most familiar with as they are more cigar size.

But I know many others will be along to help with that.

So I will say hello and welcome. With the almost endless possibilities I'm sure you can find a setup you will enjoy.

I am using a 510-T, and I can say the draw was very stiff until I replaced the atty/tank combo with Boge cartomizers. The draw is so nice and easy, it's almost too easy (I used to pack the you-know-what out of my Camels).

I think you're going the right route, but to lighten the draw I highly recommend the Boge 510 cartos. I got mine from litecigusa.net, but they're available all over. I got my actual 510 starter kit from Cignot. Both highly recommended, shipping was quick from both and prices were good.

A 510 is a nice serviceable unit, with a lot of options as far as cartomizers, and there is a new 510-tank system that has received good reviews. Pre-filled carts, are another story, I've never had on that didn't taste horrible, but someone else may be able to recommend some. As a 2 pad smoker, the 510 battery life will be poor, you will need spares and / or a PCC to be able to get through the day.

As far as lots of vapor, any pre-filled cart or juice that has a high percentage of VG would fine.

Most any supplier carries 510 kits, and the front page has a list of tried and true ECF registered vendors.

Check out the Suppliers Forum for sales and also check http://www.e-cigarette-forum.com/forum/pay-forward-pif/85781-deals-steals-110.html#post3305355 for the latest info on sales.

The 901 has an airy draw now...not tight like a thick milkshake (or oatmeal) at all.

I prefer the 510 line of ecigs. Produces lots of vapor so you're psycho addiction will be met.

Manual batteries have the button on them and a sealed connector so no worry about blowing your battery due to juice getting down in it.

If you want prefilled cartomizers, which make it a 2 piece unit, then I suggest a KR808D-1 from vapor4life.com. The other option is to get a battery adapter (510/kr808) so that you can use the 808's on it. 510's have prefilled but they are really nasty tasting.

If you choose a 510, liberty-flights.com. Click on the discount tab on top of any page and use it for 20% off your total.

If you choose the kr808d-1, vapor4life.com is where I bought mine. They also carry some really good prefilled cartomizers and juice to reload the cartomizers when they are empty.

I hope this helps a bit. I'm sure it's more confusing to you now then before will all the new options available.

Good luck and welcome back to vaping.

Dock speaks the truth (though I love my clearomizers with eGo battery, get plenty of vapor). In the end, you're likely going to have to accept something more powerful. The minis are sexy, but in the end become a pain if you really want to vape your head off! Let's face it, if you're going to try again, you may as well throw your all into it and go big, because once you get past the appearance, you'll like the production, etc. so much that you'll find yourself caring less and less about the size. It's better than wasting more money to step up slightly, if minis weren't even close to satisfying, then one bump higher probably won't cut it either.

I started on Blu and was fine, I too wanted the appearance, but Blu was acceptable for me, I've since upgraded for vapor and convenience reasons.

Dripping and driving is the sh**s honestly. Bottom feeding is the way to go. I honestly believe you cant get any more simple with amazing vapor than a reo. If your after small a mini would be perfect it will fit in even the smallest of hands. Any way they are strong simple to use no messing about it's even easier than smoking.

..But! If you're dead set on a mini setup, I also have the regular Volcano (not Magma, can't speak for it) and the vapor is good as well as very easy draw. Plus it has the "pack" (portable charging case) which can hold 3 batteries and 5 carts, so it's reasonable.

Just my two cents.

EDIT: Double-checked Volcano site, the Magma at least has the manual options and PCC as well, which I'm pretty sure is just a 510 anyway

Hi countrygirl and welcome, You're not too fussy about what e cig you use then.....lol.

It's well easy to quit with e cigs if you get the right set up. The mini cigs are great but a after about a week or two you'll wish you had something better. Something more.

But in a way there is a passage of rights to this. You do have to get a crappy mini (thats a bit harsh actually) then upgrade to something better. Then find a liquid that you like . And you're good.

having just started myself, about a month ago I was wanting to start along the same lines you were

1) I'd reccommend a KR808D-1 litecigusa.net sells them as does vapor4life. I got my basic kit at lite cig, but the v4l cartomizers are better quality. its a 2 piece system, just screw on a cartomizer and go.

2) the KR808D-1 has a nice draw on it IMO, I was a 1-2 pack/day camel smoker and it wasn't much different of a draw to me, no "sucking oatmeal through a straw" feeling

3) I've heard everyone say high % of VG gets more vapor, however I haven't really found anywhere that prefills cartomizers with high VG product. that said I find the prefills from v4l and litecig both produce adequate vapor, although it dissappears rather quickly

4) go manual battery, they're more durable, and after a couple hours of constant use pushing the button seems to come natural.

5) a little bit of everywhere has prefilleds, I hear people talk about bloog, boge and vapor 4 life cartridges alot on here though, its a matter of picking your starter kit and finding the flavors you like.

+1 to this. The 510 is a good model as cig look alikes go (its what I'm using right now) but to get the really good vape you want you just about have to let go of the cig look alike requirement.

My recommendation would be the ego, the igo, or the echo. If you're determined the 510 is ok...not great but the same can be said of most of the cig look alikes.

ETA: I think if you could let go of that you'd end up sticking with it better... JMO

Check out some of the reviews for Volt (bloog mf style, only cheaper)....it seems to offer what you are looking for in an ecig however it is an automatic. That said, ecig technology has been evolving since you tried 2 years ago so you might be pleasantly surprised. Battery life between charges is going to be on the shorter side with any cig-sized model but as long as you have spares, you should be fine.

Well I for one understand the wanting to start with "looks like a cig". I think everyone on this thread did it (with the exception of one it looks like), including me! Only you can decide. If you must have the cig feel, follow the others recomendations. I personally used a SmokeTip for about 2 weeks. Didn't cut it, I actually LIKED the juice, but the battery life was, less than acceptable and went to eGo. This weekend, Old Goat has graced my checking account (when you have vaped for awhile, ask and we will explain that somewhat cryptic "old Goat" remark).

If you think you are going to pick up a PV (that's personal vaporizer or another name for an e-cig) and never smoke a cig again, well it sure is possible. However, you could be just like a LOT of us here and still smoke analogs (regular cigs) for awhile. No shame at ALL and even if you DO smoke regular cigs, you will cut down TREMENDOUSLY. I personally never planned to quit smoking. Somewhere along the line however, I did quit smoking analogs. I realized today I havn't smoked a regular cig in something like 2 or 3 weeks. I have no IDEA when it was LOL

Welcome to the journey my friend. The first few weeks are annoying, thought provoking, tasty, tasteless (that's actually in your mouth taste) and sometimes so frustrating you want to murder someone. But, if you find that vapeing is for you, it's worth it.

Welcome to ECF countrygirl, I think Tybin says it best, "the more it looks like a real cigarette, the less performance you will get". Battery life, taste, satisfaction etc seems to be true, you can't go wrong with the eGo/Riva from libertyflights, litecigsusa.net or cignot, good product, great vape and good service unless and until you move to a mod like the reo, Provari or Darwin, that is more advanced and costlier but the best in vapes!

I said I'd order something by the end of the day today, and I made it in under the wire ... just barely. Unfortunately, after reading all the advice, checking out the sales, reading other threads, and thinking about what I really HAVE to have, I'm not sure at all if I ordered the right thing.

But ... since I really dislike it when someone asks my advice and then proceeds to totally ignore it, I took a deep, smoke-filled breath and went with the RiVa eGo from Evcigarettes. I figure if I hate it, I can always try the 510 in a few weeks. I've been smoking for 35 years, so I guess a couple weeks either way isn't going to kill me.

So here's what I ordered:
*Authentic EM RiVa (eGo) Dual Starter Kit - 1100 mAh Manual Button. Comes with:
Genuine Eastmall Brand RiVa (eGo)
2x RiVa (eGo) 3.7V 1100 mAh Manual Battery
1x EM Joye 510 Low Resistance (LR) Atomizer (1.6 ohm +/- 0.1ohm)
1x EM Joye 510 Atomizer (2.3 ohm +/- 0.1 ohm)
1x RiVa (eGo) 510 Atomizer Cone
10x Blank Joye 510 Round-Tip Cartridges
1x EM RiVa USB Fast Charger (only takes 2 hours to fully charge a battery)
1x Wall Charger
2x Free 10mL E-Liquids
*1x Free Delrin Drip Tip for 510/901
7 juice flavors, some low nic, some medium

I'm in total brain fog right now -- did I leave anything off my order that I need to get started?
