Things just keep getting worse. Been looking for work for months.. my mom loaned me money to buy a vehicle so I could get to/from work, and commute if need to expand my options.

Had an Explorer, but was guzzling gas like crazy, so I sold it and bought another vehicle. Turns out it was stolen. The guy had fraudulent papers (lien sale), but all seemed legit until I got to the DMV and was told I needed receipts for the forms the lien holder sends to various people.

So I called who I thought was the lien holder... they'd never had the vehicle on their lot. Went to the police department to file a report, and turns out the vehicle was stolen.

I'm out $3500, my mom's absolutely freaking out, and I have no idea what I'm going to do now. We're both pretty much broke at this point.. I might just end up having to move back to Canada now.

Life.......

Lesson learned? You betcha. DON'T TRUST ANYONE ON CRAIGSLIST, EVER. CHECK EVERY SINGLE LITTLE DETAIL. TWICE. THREE TIMES IF NEED BE.

That's terrible, I'm so sorry to hear. On the bright side though, it sounds like you're not being tied into the theft.

My boyfriend purchased a car a few months ago that he couldn't register after several attempts, a blotchy history led the DMV to believe it was stolen. He sold it two weeks later, full disclosing the problem. Ate a few hundred dollars and a lot of time at the DMV.

Everything is okay in the end. If it's not okay, it's not the end.
