I had bought some empty cartos to fill myself and I'm not sure if I did something wrong or if these cartos are duds. So today I ordered some pre-filled cartos and a tank with standard resistance carto in the hopes that those will keep my cravings at bay until I find better cartos or figure out what I'm doing wrong filling blank ones. I'll definately get horizontal coil blank cartos next.

Today is day 11 analog-free but my frustration is driving me nuts!

I have 3 generic 808s, 1 manual and 2 autos. I have Boge 808 SR cartos (at least I think they are SR). When I first filled them, I used the syringe method, 1ml of juice each. 2 of them look like the cotton shrunk up and they are dark in the middle. I'm guessing they got burned. I don't have a way to test them but they get so hot compared to the pre-filled ones I had before (which, like an idiot, I tossed as soon as I got the blanks).

I'm really hoping the tank works better for me. I may as well be dripping with how often I have to top off these cartos!

So sorry SunnyMoon I can't answer your question with this specific set up, hopefully someone will be along soon to offer some advise. The majority of the members here are helpful folks!

For the price of a few cartons of deathsticks you could have a 1300mah riva... with a 5ml carto tank...with a LR dual coil carto in it.......

No fiddle, no fuss.

Enjoy your "yeah, but this looks like a cigarette".

:glare: that was uncalled for

Not familiar with your gear, but do you let the juice properly sink into the carto?
When i first got my 510 kit I too had problems with the cartos, they all tasted burnt.
After i started using a syringe i just flood the carto and leave it for a couple of minutes, topping off if all the juice has
gone into the fill. After a few minutes I put the syringe in the hole in the middle and suck up the leftover juice.
Haven't had a problem with any cartos since I started doing this.
I've tried to just dripping them full, but that just makes me keep dripping every few minutes.

Don't give up,you'll get it right soon :)

Yeah, even using a syringe, it still takes a little time to settle before vaping. At least 15 minutes, then blow out any excess, from the same side you suck on, back into a napkin.

Not sure moving on to a 3 piece is actually progress.
Cartos cost much less, leak less and seem to hold more liquid.

I started with a 3 piece and haven't used my atty's for several months, just cartos.

I got one of the "yeah, but this looks like a cig" 808 and I like it! I just take the top off the carto and tip it , drip some juice around the sides, take your time ,a new one 8-10 drops ,let it set for 5 min then drip some more, let is set.. I put 20-25 drops in a blank . I got 6 days analog free. Thers LOTS of good people here, don't stop now!!

It sounds to me like maybe the juice hadn't settled down into the carto when you vaped. I shake mine down like it's a thermometer and then let it sit for half an hour or so. Are you using 100% VG juice? If yes, that stuff will take more time to saturate the carto. The higher the VG %, the longer it will take.

There's nothing wrong with the 808's. I used them exclusively for well over a year and they worked just fine. I still use them, but not exclusively. I love my KGO and Riva!

I have the same problem with my current ecig, they are sending out a replacement because it might be to do with the battery

It can only be a couple of things that is causing burnt cartos.

If they are getting really hot, I would guess that they are LR, not SR. This is also not good for your slim ecig battery.

The second thing it could be is if you didn't fill it enough. If you put 1ml in the carto, you will have to wait until it gets down to the coil and the filler is thoroughly saturated. If it's a high VG eliquid, that could take awhile. The problem with high VG, in addition to being very slow to completely saturate the filler, is that if you take several puffs in a row, the VG takes longer to wick back down to the coil, even if you correctly filled it the first time.

If you are using high VG juice, you can thin it with a few drops of distilled water, or you could use PG if you have some.

Boges are generally very good cartos. I've never had any kind of problem with them.

I don't know anything about the Kanger horizontal coils as I've always used the Boge.

Thanks everyone! I won't give up, but I might go broke in the process :p Major learning curve over here. I went ahead and got a bunch of new stuff. I got a pack of pre-filled cartos, a tank for my 808s (the tank comes with a LR carto so I got a SR carto to go with it) and some juice.

I had been making my own juice which probably comes down to about 90%VG, I did try to thin it a little with distilled water but it's just not working for me. Next time I order DIY stuff I'm going to get PG and shoot for 50/50.

But then I went on youtube and found some vids of the Ego-T and it looks pretty dang simple so guess what I did...found one at a great price online and snatched one up! Next weekend is going to be fun playing with all my new toys :D

I'll post an update then.

WELCOME TO THE ECF

The main reasons for a burnt carto is that you didn't fill it enough in the beginning. So the "diaper" (piece of cotton around the coil) became too dry and was burnt by the heat coming from the coil. Another reason is that the ohms were a bit to low for the voltage that it was used at. Which would also create more heat then what the carto was intended for and will get it to the point to where it's too dry.

Also, it can be too much heat for the juice to taste good and can pop the coil all at the same time. Depending on the set-up. The third and last reason would be that you did not top if off enough. All of these reasons lead to the same major problem. The carto becomes too dry for it's own good.

If you really want a carto tank. Then I would HIGHLY suggest you give Phiniac tanks a try. Since they are made from THICK pyrex glass that is very durable. Another benefit is that they won't crack if you use a certain type of juice in it. Check it out, they are really works of art:
