Has he shown any interest in any of your equipment? Has he let you know that he wants to quit smoking? If he has the desire to quit he is half way there already. If at all possible, take him to a vape store and let him get the feel of what is available and he can choose what he wants or if you have a variety of set-ups let him try them. If none of them suit him let him know that there is something out there for every taste. Good luck to you and him.

I agree with others that he has to want to, however, I have heard many in your situation of trying to help a loved one with some success. Often the loved one would at least try it to make them happy and found that they enjoyed it enough (even to their own surprise( to at least significantly cut down and some eventually to quit. My very tech-challenged parent picked up a 20w istick with a simple tank that had good vapor and easy to refill/change coils/maintain and has had great success. Had tried ego's and just didnt fulfill the need enough but that set up worked for them and was reliable. Hasnt had a smoke in 6 mos after 35+ yrs. Another suggestion would be an EgoOne, several sizes to choose from, simple operation, if the subohm or the small filling spot doesnt fit for them, throw a dif tank on. I would suggest getting an extra tank for any set up anyways for backup/spare and so he can see how they taste/hit diferently to see what he likes. Sorry I only have knowledge of the 2 but I still think they're solid choices. Good luck! :)

From own experience, both mom and dad, I'd advice a simple light ego style start kit.
Simple tank on it with replaceable coilheads which is easy to maintain. Make sure there's 2 ego batteries so he don't have to do without while charging.

I gave my mom one her bday, dark red with evod tanks and my dad stole the 2nd one in the set.
Ended up buying him a set the month after.
Supplied coilheads for a year or so until I explained them where to order. My mom immediately stopped buying cigs, stealing an occasional hit from dad and both totally dropped analogues after about half a year.

Edit: even after 1.5-2 yrs neither shows an interest in my gear and are still totally content with their egos, replacing them as they go dead.

So Cal
I smoked for 40 years, and Halo worked for me. I second an ego type setup - I've started several friends (who also smoked forever) on these setups successfully. Whatever you do don't try and go for something more fancy! When people have smoked that long they think they want to be as close to possible as a real cigarette (even though that can change fairly quickly). And make sure the nic level is high enough! (Any subtank type will make him cough and put him off - you have to remember lungs are compromised after smoking that long, and it takes time for them to recover).

KISS.keep it simple stupid.
a cigalike like V2,Halo or Volt may be the best and simplest
devices to transition from 30 years of smoking as they mimic
an actual cigarette in form and function.
very easy to use and maintain. the cartridges can be refilled
with any juice you want.
a good start would be 2 batteries in the size of the cigarette
he uses now.make them auto fire by inhaling. you want two batteries
as it allows one to adjust charging cycles with out being with out
something to use and lets you decide if more batteries are needed.
get a five pack of prefilled carto's with something you think he may
like. get an extra five pack of blanks to fill with different juice to
adjust to his taste.carto's are refillable,cleanable and,re-usable
up to five times or more depending on circumstances.
the next thing is to find an incentive to get him at least to give
it a try for 2 weeks. if after that he can look you in the eye and
tell you with a straight face he doesn't feel better you'll give
him 50 bucks or a bottle of his favorite hooch. some thing you
know he likes.
remember to tell him vaping is not smoking. there is no way
to get the same feel as from a real cigarette. you can get close
but,no cigar.(pun intended)
good luck and regards
mike

Keeping it simple should be even more simple.

Ego 650 battery with a SMOK dual coil carto (fiber filled).

No its not the best vape but it's 100% dependable and guaranteed to not leak.

The more labor one has to put into it, the less likely they will stick with it.

Remember, you are competing with the ease of grabbing a pack or two and a Bic lighter.
