Trying to stop smoking analog cigs, about to try vaping

Hello Everyone,

I've been reading through a lot here for probably about three weeks so far. Just started (today) trying to quit analogs..

I'm really hoping that e-cigs will work out for me because I think its something I could enjoy and may make quitting the analogs easier (as I'm really not having an easy time with this)...

After reading through some of the information here I'm thinking about getting a riva 510 from liberty-flights.. One thing that's not too fun for me is I don't get paid until tomorrow evening, anyone have any guesses if I order a setup on Thursday night from Liberty-flights (shipping to New York) when I might expect to receive it?

As sad as it is to admit out-loud, that is probably the real reason I haven't already started vaping.. I work part-time and am a student going paycheck to paycheck and I cant really afford to buy an e-cig setup + a carton of analogs so I knew whenever I did order the starter kit and everything else I'd have to go at least the weekend without any cigs and that makes me a little nervous... I'm gonna do it this check anyhow though because I really am sick of smoking analogs..

Anyhow, sorry for rambling on, now I'll get to some questions lol--

Like I asked previously, if a riva starter kit + juice from liberty flights is ordered on a thursday night are there any guesses when I might receive it?

Does anyone know of any place on Long Island I might be able to purchase something like that in person?

Does anyone recommend any other places that might get me a starter kit a little fast?

Thanks so much in advance for any advice you guys can give...

Aj

Well, I've always found that (for me, anyway) quitting cigarettes comes in two stages. When you stop buying cigarettes, and when you stop bumming cigarettes from other people. At least that's what I did when I tried cold turkey. So, for a weekend you could go the bumming cigarettes path - at least enough to keep you from punching holes in walls - and then start with the kit when it arrives. Good luck.

Just a heads-up: I smoked 1 PAD for about 30 years, and the e-cigs don't completely eliminate withdrawal symptoms. They do make them much, much easier to handle. It's just cigarettes have lots of addictive things in them, and e-cigs only have nicotine. That's to your benefit, in the long run, but there will be nail-biting moments when you think you really need to get a cigarette and light it up. You can chain-vape your way through those moments, if you choose to.

You might well find something local, but LF has really good prices and CS.
For just starting out, and in my case for long term, cartomizers (combined cartridge and atomizer) can be a bit more "natural", easier to work with.
On Riva I really like the Boge low resistance (2 ohm nominal) cartomizers, good vapor/warmth.

I'm pretty sure LF now offers a kit option that includes cartomizers. If you go with LF, don't forget to use their october20 20% off discount code, which brings a base Riva kit in at just over $30, and I believe their cartomizer variant is just a couple $ more at most.

You'll need eliquid. Generally if you smoke full pack a day of full strength cigs you'll likely need 24 mg/ml strength, with some people needing 16 - 18 mg/ml strength and others needing a bit higher. If you smoked lights the norm is more often a 16-18 mg/ml strength, with some needing 12 mg and others 24. A good safe bet is to pick either tobacco flavor or menthol (whichever you use), in a couple of strengths, to help dial-in what works. Don't get tense about flavors right off, try to get the nic level settled. You may well find that one strength is okay much of the time, but you may want a bit higher strength for craving points (like first waking up).

Take long, slow, drags, not quick puffs. Some people find it better to initially inhale into the mouth, then finish the inhale into their lungs, rather than directly to the lungs -- it varies, what works.

Drink lots of water, more than you think you need -- eliquid uses humectants, things that pull the water out of you. Hoarseness and a bit of coughing is typical, particularly right at first.

Good luck!

When I quite I went straight from analogs to vaping and have not looked back. Don't get em wrong there have been points where I have thought about analogs, even lit on but it tasted sooo bad I put it out. I was a pac a day somker of lights and starded with 18mg. I just ordered some juice today and cut it back to 6mg. In the end I think that if you are serious about quitting, this is your first step in the process and wishing you good luck!!

Once you start, keep ahead of yourself with extra juice. It would be a bummer if you find out that you love vaping and everything is going great, but then you run out of juice and you have to wait for more to be shipped to you. I recommend buying at least a weeks worth of juice when you start, but start ordering more after your first 24 hours of vaping. That will give you a little experience before you order, but also give you a time cushion for shipping.
Also, don't freak out if you have to smoke for a few days (doing this on a really tight budget is tricky at first). Maybe buy a pack not a carton?
Second, you will figure this out, find affordable ways to do it, and learn to love vaping.
Welcome to ECF and I wish you the best.

It normally takes Liberty Flights 3 days from the date of order to get the order to me in the Atlanta area if that is any help.

I know that NHaler • Smoking Alternatives is in NJ but I don't know how close it is to you. Drew has one of the largest selections of models of any supplier I have seen and he has a good reputation.

Sorry if it sounds confusing. On a direct inhale you pull the vapor right into your lungs, one shot as it were. Alternately you can basically suck the vapor just into your mouth, remove the PV from your mouth, finish the intake breathing in plain air behind the mouthful of vapor. Some people find it easier to do one versus the other.

ajs - if you're serious about getting off analogs then the e cig is gonna be a massive help to you. I'm over 8 weeks analog free now. I'll be honest i have found it fairly easy.
I will say to you - don't go into this half hearted. Power into it with some quiet determination. The call for analogs is loud but you can vape them calls away. You can do it. You can save your system from getting fouled up. Go for it.

Keep posting on here. If it's easy or hard. People will support you. And people will learn/take heart from your experience.

Nice to see you here, Aj, - I'm Aj as well.
Can't really offer any advice at the moment as I am in the same boat-- tryin' to quit analog and waiting for first shipment of e-cigs...

But wishing you the best of luck and hoping you find the answers you are looking for.

Both of my LF shipments have gotten to me in three days (TN). They also have great customer service and replaced both my batteries and bad charger from my first kit, no questions asked. :)

I know not everyone has the easy transition I have had, but I'm into my fifth day with no urge to smoke an analog at all. I wish you much luck!

Look for it to take anywhere from 3-5 days shipping. If ordered on Thursday, it should ship on Friday unless you order early in the morning then you might luck out and they will ship the same day. Try putting a comment like "Urgently needed" in the comments section if they have one. I wish you luck. Part of quitting is getting it into your head that you CAN quit. Once you conquer that, you'll have it made. You will also experience some withdraw no matter what but it's not nicotine withdrawal...it's all the other junk in cigs.

Aj,
I'm awaiting an order from Liberty Flights, and I also have ample juice coming in.

I smoked 1-2 PPD for 40 years and could never quit. I tried gum, patches, cold turkey, hypnosis, and aversion therapy. I would always cave in to the impulse/pleasure/reward of that first deep drag...then it hit me. 90% of my addiction was behavioral. When I found e cigs(NJOY) at 7/11 I was able to quit analogs immediately. Then I found ECF and a whole new world opened up. I have not had a cig since 1/17/11 which is a real miracle. I am much older than you so quite a bit of damage has been done, and I'm dealing with that.

You are fortunate to make this decision at your age. I know its difficult, but slow down. The order will get to you as soon as it can. Sorry to be so preachy...I know patience is a ...... Take a deep breath...exhale. You'll do fine.
