Trying to understand why I got a burned taste

So I was vaping on the build detailed below and it's fine at first and then suddenly I get burned taste and very hot vape. Mutation v4 rda. Specifically, it's .5 ohms (24 gauge kanthal a1 w/8 wraps). And I'm vaping at 40W. Idk if it's an error with my build (which lights up simultaneously) or if it's operator error. I'm thinking I built wrong, my wattage is too high, I vaped too long back to back, or my cotton dried out. I'm thinking my build since this is the first one I've done, but any ideas or suggestions would be appreciated.

Best guess? At 40 watts (above Ohm's law value)... your wicking "potential" can't keep up with the speed (or relative temperature and time-to-temperature) at which the juice is consumed.
How to find out? Drop it down to around 30 watts to see if it still burns. Among others... your juice PG/VG percentages and wick density/thickness/fit in coil are all "tuneable" variables.

it all boils down to its getting hot....
1. loose or broken connections or hot spot
2. not enough air to cool coil
3. not enough juice to cool coil...whether youre hitting it too long between drips, or wick is too loose or too full

Can you go to 2.5id?

one other thing worth a mention is that my regulated mod, my sigelei has an adjustable pin that can be screwed in and out to contact the center pin on the rda and if they are barely touching or say my rda comes a little loose the ohm's will change and i will get a very harsh hit.

So you didn't check to see if the deck was dry?

Yeah I found out the issue after I got it home. The coils weren't firing at the same time. They were when I first built it but they weren't when I got home. Should've checked it better before I used it.

So you didn't check to see if the deck was dry?

It wasn't. That was the first thing I checked.
