this was a turbo charge ipod charger. runs off 2 AA. removed the jack for charger adapters and replaced with an EGO atty connector.

i cant remember the voltage drop, it was right around 5v without atty, dropped to like 3.2 with LR atty but still hit weak. power gets cut with a standard res atty

as of now ill call this: FAIL!

but she looks cool huh:p? maybe ill strip the guts and make it a dual 14500 batt pack

i was thinking about that. dont have them, and dont have money to spend, being laid off sucks. someday ill get back on my feet and buy some for this stuff. ill probably have to take out the internals and just put a couple leds and a new switch. but another day

If it's regular AA's ... they are 1.2 volts each. 2.4 volts would suck. That's why li Ion is used most... 3.6 volts each.

You could find something that uses 4 NiMH batteries if you have em (like the puck does). 4 x 1.2 = 4.8. Nice.........

its an ipod charger. it uses 2 aa, but it outputs 5v at the atty connector, but under load of a LR atty it drops to like 3.2v
i know you dont want to stick 2 aa in a box with a switch and an atty.

Didn't mean to imply that you didn't know... just wasn't sure what was in it from the OP. Anyway... it must have a booster. For sure, not enough amps. Then you get the voltage drop due to insufficient amps. Bummer.

You could stick 2 14500's in a box with a switch and HV atty, when the cash flow works out. Or 1 14500 with std or lower atty. The enclosure is cool, just the guts won't work.

It's a cool look'n mod dude.

Using AA alkaline batts is not very cost effective. You could use NiMH rechargeable AA batts

i actually did use rechargeable... also tried the energizer lithium advanced too

oh and its tight in there, not much room for anything. im not so sure if i can get a switch where id like to yet

Or maybe not.

Four NiMHs (5.5V unloaded) with a 2.5Ω load.

i was going to use 2 10440s in it (with spacers, all i have atm), so i broke apart the module in it, the batteries spring terminals are mounted to it. i was re soldering the atty to the spring terminals and:facepalm:... Fn FAIL!!!

all i have is a butane soldering iron. the vent hole was facing the wrong direction and i melted the blue plastic... $20 waisted, not that i used the charger for the ipod more than once... i might try to melt it back but it wont be as clean looking no more...

so what ive come to is... turbo charge ipod charger.... NOT a simple add an atty ecig mod. and i need a new soldering iron

That's actually a very informative test. I'd like to see the results with some Sanyo Enloops or Duracell NiMH batts. Those are supposed to have better drain characteristics. Would like to see first hand. BTW, like those Extech meters, I have one as well, is that one of the 500 series, can't really tell.

It's an Extech MN15A, got it on closeout for $20. Very nice build quality and great display. Identical readings to my $3 HarborFreight which has an on/off switch which I miss on the Extech.

When the Puck built his mod it was using a 901. As the thread progressed more and more Joye atty users started reporting ~3.6 or so volts. Seemed that they all couldn't be making some odd wiring mistakes or whatever. It was time to do a real test to cut through the bullcrap.

At 3+Ω the NiMHs are OK, get down below 2.5Ω and it's not worth the hassle and the bulk of the mod.

Four NiCDs would probably rock.
