OK, Well I can attest on how to do it wrong! :D No, seriously it happened to come out perfect (with such a great tutorial!) except I only had 32g Kanthal, so wrapping 12 times = 4.2ohms which defeats the purpose. Vaped fine at 10.5w but my little standard 2.0 ohm rebuilds vape the same @ 5.5w. But I like this idea of not having the wick laying over the breather hole, which causes so many problems if not built just right (especially with cotton).

One question... how the heck did you get the perfect amounts of cotton to lay in the "wicking holes" (divets) on either side of the chimney collar? I gave up and left cotton out of there because I sort of rolled wisps up between my fingers and wrapped the coil and compressed it... so no extra to fill those two spots, and just trying to arrange some there was too difficult without covering the center of the coil. Figured the thing was going to flood, but magically it didn't and hit great. Now I just need some 30g Kanthal...

How come every time I turn around there's more to buy? :D

PS Is 30g kanthal = to 30g nichrome or is the resistance of the material different?

Trayce, I tamp in 4-5 small pieces of cotton with the same blunt end of the coil needle. 30ga is just stiff enough to get a good micro coil that is less prone to getting deformed and not performing right. I'm sure that some variation in coil size and resistance can be just as good or better, but after trail and error, finding the specs as I laid out was a eureka moment where the taste and performance was such head and shoulders better than anything I've vaped I was truly amazed.

Oh and Kanthal will give a slightly higher ohm reading than Nichrome, but it'll be fine.

After messing up two microcoil builds the other night, getting a hot leg each time from the micro-coil not touching at every coil, I quickly made a standard coil for the night and THAT got a hot leg too!?! Got that burny grometty taste BLEH. Worse though, I don't have a bag of post insulators so don't want to be burning those up. :D Yet. :D Until I get around to ordering some. But planning on revisiting that.

So far, Big Screen, how long has a micro-coil lasted for you?
