I really want to make a scubagen mod but I don't have access to a metal lathe but I have a wood lathe. I have no idea if it's even possible but has anyone ever tried casting an epoxy resin cylinder then shaping it a wood lathe? Would the finished product be something that would be usable instead of aluminum?

How about wood? Seems like you could make the parts out of wood then coat with epoxy on the surfaces that contact the juice.

Thanks,
Greg

Dang I love this place! I've never heard of Derlin and it looks to be exactly what I need.

Thanks!

I think he means Delrin. Its the stuff lots of drip tips are made of. There are several folks that have made scubagens with that stuff. I believe Teach and Zen both have, so you might search their posts.

I dont know what type resin you have but I use urethane resin to mold my mod case...and it will soften if it gets juice or alcohol on it.

Also a word of caution on machining Delrin...I was machining large Delrin parts in a CNC one time and the coolant nozzle had plugged during the cycle while I was doing other stuff...the cutter started melting the Delrin into a big ball around it and kept pushing its way thru the part by melting it. When I opened the doors of the CNC the formaldehyde fumes from the heated Delrin hit me like a hammer...burning my nose, throat and gave me an instant headache. It also cleared the shop for some time.

So yeah...use sharp cutters with large clearance reliefs to reduce contact area.
