It gets quite noticeably warm depending on the wattage and how you vape. Chain-vaping heats it up faster. Paranoid that I am, I slowed down my vaping a bit and put it down when it warms up. I have two of them going at the same time, so I just switch.

It's not a good idea to let *any* battery to heat up, imho. Protection circuits or not. So I wouldn't let it go beyond "noticeably warm"...

I only have one other VV device, the ProVari, which does heat up some, but only at higher voltages, like above 4.5V. But these are two very different devices - different batts, different electronics...

If you set the Twist to the voltage the regular eGo puts out (3.4 or so? not sure), it doesn't heat up either - not that I noticed. And the electronics inside are different, so that probably has something to do with it.

People don't seem concerned, so maybe this is perfectly normal. Maybe Bad can tell us.

Briar, I bought two so I am doing the same thing now, but I am surprised at this. I have been chain-vaping Ego batts for over 2 years and never had one "heat up" on me. Slightly warm, perhaps, but not hot. Is this common in VV devices? This is my first VV so I have no idea.

I just went ahead and sent a question to Joyetech about it, just for the hell of it, and to soothe my curiosity/pathological paranoia. Doesn't hurt.

I'm honestly not concerned about it though, beyond my normal concern about any rechargeable battery. I know it's a bad idea to let them heat up much, no matter what they are or what device they are feeding, so when I feel it starting to warm up, I put it down just on that principle. Better safe than sorry, imho.

It is more a matter of how may watts you are using than it is about the volts... watts is a combination of the volts along with the ohm's of the coil in the vaporizer ( atty, carto, clearo ) that is being used.

The higher the wattage... the warmer it will be. So when asking questions along this line... give either total watts or how many volts you are vaping at with what ohm vaporizer you have on it... Boge's are made at several different ohm ratings... so just saying you are vaping at a certain voltage using a boge without providing the ohm's of the boge doesn't tell anyone anything to base any suggestion on.

Thanks, Rdsok, you are right. Doesn't serve to make shortcuts like that, I just forget that folks use different res. cartos.

I actually told them that what I was using: SR Stardust.

I ordered them months ago and I have no idea.

Ah.... that happens... obviously no one will be able to test for the issue exactly then without that part of the info...

It still serves as a good lesson to learn from so you know in the future that it is important in order for you to know what voltage setting to use with a particular ohm vaporizer... When you know all of that info... you will always be able to calculate what setting is needed for your favorite vape wattage.

Best way is to get a multimeter, imho. I don't have one only because the ProVari can tell me what resistance something is. I learned from bitter experience: I had a dead short in one of my cartos and it fried my eGo batt - it got so hot I thought it was going to blow on me. These batts are supposed to be protected against shorts, only this time the protection didn't work. Scary.

I am going to get one next time I get paid anyway. A ProVari can fail too. Anything can.

My 1000mah twist hasnt gotten more than slightly warm with a standard stardust..nothing that makes me think oh man thats getting hot better stop vaping...I remember standard 510s and egos with LR atties or DC on them getting pretty darn hot..seems its a normal thing with LR or turning up the voltage on the twist is pretty much the same thing although chain vaping gets it warm its not a flaw in the device

Rdsok is right - it's the power thing. In my case, I use SR Stardusts, but given an option, I like using around 4V or so. More power than on a regular eGo, so it heats up. If it's a LR carto, same power will be achieved at lower voltage, and so it will heat up at lower voltage. Etc.

I think it's no big deal, personally. I am just spooked and extremely paranoid, so I don't let *any* of my batts warm up beyond skin temp. Heck, I babysit my batts while they are charging, and check them for temp every 15 mins or so. Luckily I work from home. LOL And I just bought a new charger for my AW IMRs because the old one is heating up (not heating up the batts, mind you, just heating up). Like I said - paranoid.

I'm much more casual about monitoring my batteries, I just wait until or if I smell something funny...

: )

Is it actually getting hot at the battery part or just by the dial at the bottom? I ask because not having one and/or takin one apart I do not know what is where and if I was to guess the regulator might very well be at the bottom all in one kinda like a kick setup and it might very well be the regulator heating up and not the battery and thats a different story.

If the battery itself heats up then that is a issue but my guess is its the reg heating up and its all in one at the bottom with the regular/pot and ego switch and board setup at the top like normal ego's. If the whole battery starts to heat up I would stop using them pronto but so far this does not sound like the case.

Nah, just at the top around the button. I think it's ok.
