I'm not a fan of using a drill to twist wires. It just seems too cumbersome and awkward, and I'm on the road more often than home so lugging around a drill in my vape kit is impractical. I've been using a pair of safety wire pliers to twist my wires for a few months now.

Pros:
  • cheap (~$10)
  • small and easy to store/carry
  • very consistent results
  • positive grip on wires, easier to lock onto irregular surfaces than a drill chuck

Cons:
  • Can only twist in one direction
  • not very useful for clapton coils like a drill

Awesome. I spent about a year in the late '60s as an aircraft mechanic. Those things were selling for about $45.00. Each.

Sweet! I use safety wire almost daily on engine builds and when I decided to go twisted it was the first thing that came to mind after trying a drill. I have to love china, at the very least for giving us cheap/disposable tools.

$0 wire twisting/straightener. Form wire Into a loop, Gett a coat hanger and cut&bend into 2 S-hooks. Hook one hook to something high, and hook the loop of wire to that hook, now hang second hook from the loop, hang a couple pounds of weight from the second, (I use 1to4 1" wrenches as weights). Let hang there for a few minutes. Now give the contraption a spin, tiwst it about 10-20 revolutions and hold it, let it slowly unwind (done slowly enough it should go 1-5 revs back), when it settles repeat the twisting, repeat till twist pitch is acheived. Granted take HOURs compared to the 10 seconds of a drill, but you can control tension and pitch better.

I just use a paper clip straightened out and formed to where I have a loop at one end and a "crank handle" in the other, make a loop out of my wire, place one end of the loop in the clip and the other in a nail I pounded into my work bench. Then I just spin away, keeping the wire straight, until it's done to my liking.
