Does anyone have a good method for twisting 28awg on to no resistance wire? I'm not having much luck since the 28awg doesn't really like to twist - I just end up with the no res wire wrapped around the res wire......not a very sturdy connection to say the least.

FYI, this is for building ultra low res silica wick coils in my Odysseus.

I just saw that Zapper that igetcha69 used in his latest video - now that would do the trick nicely, but it's a bit expensive for what it is IMO.

That zapper does look sweet, doesn't it. What's the price and where did you see it?

You're absolutely right about having one wire wrap around the other that seems to stay straight... kind of like a coil wraps around a wick. What I've been doing is instead of making a V, and then starting to twist, I make it more like an X... or really a cross. Nearly 90 degrees. I hold it under a magnifier, and concentrate on making both the wires twist around each other. If you were to unravel them, they should both look kinda like a double helix... not one a coil and the other straight. You seem like you're aware of this, so maybe a more cross-like start in the joint might help you get there.

I had to move away from 28 k with 30g silver nr. I'm using this method with 32g K, so I don't know how much success you'll have with 28g. But I think the concept is sound if you can get them both to twist around each other uniformly.

You actually don't need a real sturdy connection as there isn't much stress on the connection. What you do want is a tight connection that makes good electrical contact. Try wrapping the the nr wire on the r wire a couple of times then bending about 1/16 in of the r wire back on itself, trapping the nr wire underneath the bent back tip of the r wire. Wrap a couple more turn of nr wire and it should hold.

Look at example c on the right for a similar idea to what I'm talking about. The r wire would be to the right and the part hanging down would just be folded back to the right on itself. Western Union splice - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

You can also make a welder at low cost from a camera flash circuit. I have one courtesy of a friend and it works well. I use nickel wire because it's fine for our purpose and a lot cheaper than silver wire. Check the forum here for the thread.

Also, you might want to take a look at the cramping beads. There's some cost involved but they're supposed to work well.
