28awg Penelope coil

Does anyone have any good videos or know of any good methods for wrapping 28 gauge kanthal with 32 gauge NR wife for a Penelope/Odysseus? Every time I try to do it I just end up wrapping the silver NR wire around the 28 gauge, because it's so much stiffer. The 28 gauge won't wrap properly and the twist just pulls apart. Has anyone done this successfully?

Sorry, I usually just use 32g nichrome (lower resistance than Kanthal) in my Penelope. It seems like it would be hard to get enough in there to have a coil that's not TOO low. Have you successfully done this before? Not doubting you at all, I'm just saying what I had assumed before, but I have some twisted wires I made one day when I was bored but still haven't used them yet. It might be fun to experiment with the Penelope.

Thanks for the reply. No I haven't done this yet. I want a setup around .7Ω or .8Ω and am finding it hard to do with 30 gauge kanthal. I wasn't aware that nichrome gives lower Ω's. I have some 32 gauge laying around I might play with... do you know where I can find some nichrome in 30 gauge? That might be my ticket.

It can be done. That is 28 Kanthal, I think 30g would be a better choice because of the small space but it's your call.

It can be done. That is 28 Kanthal, I think 30g would be a better choice because of the small space but it's your call.

I honestly don't remember but I would guess at 1.3 ohms as I don't think that I was using it on a mechanical

It's nothing drastic or anything. Say you wrapped a 1.3Ω coil with 32g, it would probably be like 1.1Ω or something if that with nichrome.

Edit: 4 wraps is like .9Ω for me with the 32g nichrome. I just use that because it was $5 for a spool of 30 feet at CoV and since I like low ohm coils I only need to use a tiny bit each time.

You need to look up Bish in the GG section. He has a lot of videos with all kinds of crazy coils for Pene and Ody. Also he will walk you through any troubles you are having Skype.

I would just wrap a dual coil using some 32 gauge. It's my current setup @ 0.9 ohms in a Term-C and it hits great. Never tried the "highlander" dual coils, but probably will on my next build. Bishopheals definitely has some great vids.

That's the method I used.

I tried the dual coil once and it was a pain in the a**. I didn't get it running for whatever reason. I think when I wrapped it all the coils got pinched together because I pulled a little too tight. I'll have to give it another shot though. I really like my Penelope, but would like it twice as much if I could get consistent SLR coils on it (on my Provari the amp limit makes it suck). Could make things easier and just use it on a homemade box mod with a 15 amp limit, but it looks frumpy on top of that thing. Looks like tonight I will be conquering the dual or triple...hopefully.

You don't have to do the dual or triple coils, I was just pointing you to Bish. He has some vids with SLR single coils. You might get some bigger NR wire to make things easier.
