I've been vaping for about two weeks, coming off of snus. I got tired of my gum line receding and my teeth occasionally hurting. The cancer risks were also a factor in deciding to finally give it up. I just wasn't aware that vaping was a viable option because up until recently I thought that the only things out there were the things on the Stephen Dorff commercials.

I got a basic starter setup. An ego C Twist, a couple Kangertech T3S clearomizers (i think that's what they're called) an iClear 16 clearomizer with those little wicks inside of it aaaand.... an Aspire BDC clearomizer. Not particularly thrilled with the last one. You know how underneath the skirt (I think that's what it's called, I have no idea, I'm new man!!!) there's the protrusion that makes contact with the battery when you screw it on? Well it's not making contact anymore with the battery and I can't vape from it.

I have no idea where to begin. I could really use a crash course in voltages, what ohms have to do with anything, the voltage ranges on the clearomizers so I don't end up frying a coil in 5 minutes flat. How low should you let a tank get before refilling it? Is there a way to clean tanks out when you want to switch to a different flavor? How long should I wait before looking into mechanical mods? Are there really any big differences between 'originals' and clones?

I know I'll have more questions, I just don't want to make three paragraphs of nothing but questions yet lol

Sometime you need to gently pry up the center post of batteries to get them to make contact with the topper. One topper may push the center post down more than others. I use a saftey pin, but a small screwdriver or similar tool will work. Just gently wiggle the center post out a tiny bit...it usually doesn't take much.

Every tank is a bit different as to how low you can let it get before refilling. On a T3s, I find that it is better not to let it get too low...I refill when it gets down to about 1/3 left.

Here is an ohms chart. If you know the voltage of your battery and the ohms of your coil, you can find the wattage. Basically try to stay in the green area.

Hi Jaymus,
Welcome and congrats on switching!

You've gotten great advice so far. I'll just add a little. W/my iclear 16s, if I'm adding the same flavor (or one 1 where I want the flavors to mix), I'll refill when ever there's room and it's convenient timewise for me to fill. If I'm switching flavors, I let it get quite low. As long as the wicks are still getting liquid it works, just b/c I hate wasting a good flavor.

To clean, the iclears anyway, you can take completely apart and rinse or soak everything in hot water or alcohol. Run a search on youtube for more demonstrations than you'll know what to do with. I don't dry burn mine, I just rinse/soak and replace the coil if they get too gunked up.

Keefers has kindly compiled a great list of reference threads here. They've been quite helpful for me.

You have to rewick a T3S to stop it from leaking when under ~.8ml.

iClear 16's are my reliable backups.

Here's a friendly voltage/ohms chart to show you how to set your variable voltage eGo: http://www.vaporsworld.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/04/power-vaping-chart-lg.jpg

To clean a tank between flavors, rinse tank and wicks with hot water and let it dry. It's not 100% for some flavors though. Those will just take time.

I'm happy without a mechanical mod for now. Just fyi, incorrect use of a mechanical mod means an exploding battery.

Some clones are pretty high quality. Reviews exist.

Thanks for that link! I had to scurry and search for what ohms these tanks are, the Kangers were a little hard to track down and on top of that, when I bought them they did not come with any packaging. The local vape shop is going to be holding free classes on rebuilding coils and things like that so I'm sure I'll learn a lot from those. Also, thanks for the tip on what level I should refill them at.

Welcome to the forums, here is a vid on the ego battery fix. Some tanks push the pin down then others. Don't tighten the tank on too tight, just snug.

Yeah I realized that almost immediately before I even screwed the first tank on. Usually the over tightening of anything is a bad idea. I probably forgot when changing tanks (i like to switch between flavors) and have now learned the hard way. Won't be doing that again! I'll fiddle with it a little bit sometime this evening, what's great about vaping is that even if you have to replace something like a tank, it's still less money than I would have spent on chew or cigarettes!!!

I'm pretty content with what I've got so far, so I won't be entering mech mod territory just yet. I had the feeling that batteries going boom would be in the cards though so let's just hope I don't deal myself that hand!
