Types of Stainless Steel Mesh for RBS's

I have just gotten into the rba field and have already come upon a question!
When looking to purchase mesh I see 304 and 316(L) grades of stainless steel mesh.
My question is which is better? 316(L) is a higher quality and more expensive.
Does it make that much difference in wicks for rba to use 316 over 304?

forget for "higher quality", standard 400 SS mesh are ok..before using need to be prepared with torch of course

It's been awhile, but from what I can recall, 316 SS is the less non ferrous of the two, which you have noted. There is also a type 308 and perhaps others, as well. There are also different finishes, such as mill, 2B, 8, etc.

Having said that, the content of the SS is probably not a factor, considering what we are using it for. I think that the more important factor is the density of the ss mesh and its ability to wick to feed the coil. As such, i think that the thicker the liquid, a less density mesh would be in order and the thinner the liquid, a higher density mesh would suit that purpose.

I am learning about RBAs, myself. So, there is going to be learning curve with lots of trial and error on my part.
