So i know some stainless steel contains lead, i don't want to breathe in lead. Most stores that sell SS meshes make no mention of what type of steel it is, at best i've seen mention of industrial grade which doesn't exactly inspire confidence. Anybody know a place in europe that sells food grade or 420, 430, 304, 316, 14539 or 14462 type SS mesh?

Very interesting and something that never occurred to me when shopping for SS mesh. I did a search for SS and lead content and found that it's the ferritic grades that have it. From the article:

'Ferritic stainless steels generally have better engineering properties than austenitic grades, but have reduced corrosion resistance, because of the lower chromium and nickel content. They are also usually less expensive. They contain between 10.5% and 27% chromium and very little nickel, if any, but some types can contain lead. Most compositions include molybdenum; some, aluminium or titanium. Common ferritic grades include 18Cr-2Mo, 26Cr-1Mo, 29Cr-4Mo, and 29Cr-4Mo-2Ni. These alloys can be degraded by the presence of \sigma chromium, an intermetallic phase which can precipitate upon welding.'

So, which are ferritic grades? See here.

The mesh I have seen is either 304 or 316, neither of which are ferritic so I assume there is nothing to worry about. Am I missing something?
