If you can canabalize a 4 AA or 4 AAA battery holder from some place, you can *carefully* wire it by attaching the ground (black) to the spring in the bottom, and attach the red where the top of the battery (the nipple) sits. Kinda clunky, but it should work to get you through. Make sure the red doesn't contact the switch except when you depress the button (test it with the batteries out of the holder first)

ETA: Necessity is a mother (or something like that) :) BTW, that will give you around 4.8 v to start and drop down to around 4v. Don't get spoiled ;)

stuck on staff duty (24hr duty) i, like an idiot forgot my spare batteries and my one battery just died...

This won't help you get thru your current shift, but if you can swing it, I suggest you invest in spare batteries and a charger to keep at work, if that's feasible.

Im an idiot with electronics, so I didnt end up doing this, BUT if I were to do something like this, the ground = (-) and the red = (+)? Just wrap the the wires (they don't actually have to be black and red do they?) around the contacts on the battery holder?

yes, just make sure it's a good solid connection. twist or something to hold in place. this is just for emergency use. but if you try it and like it, you can make a suitable 5v vaping device for around $10 that uses readily available rechargeable NiMH batteries. Instructions to make it are here (don't need to be an electrical engineer to make it either :) )

Unfortunatley we dont have a radio shack on post and the Korean local economy doesnt really have this stuff either. Once I get back to the states next year though...!

Well, bookmark it for future reference, I made one of these a few months back, and it's superb! It's great to keep around for emergencies, too. You can get all the parts, here in the states at least, locally so you can maintain it cheaply. I shorted mine out, but luckily had some leftover springs and fixed it right up in about 5 minutes.
