Man... I waited 32 days to get my BVC coils from China...
They arrived today and I filled one up. Personally, I don't believe in the 'sitting' method. I prime the coil well and then start low. Starting low means next to no vapor, but *for me* seems to break in the coil without the risk of something unpleasant happening.
I go from about 6 watts to 14 watts (say) in <10 jumps.
Too wet = no vapor. Too dry = dry hit, horrible, maybe end of coil.
You get used to it eventually. Once bedded in, they are usually trouble free.

I always start out a new wick (the part that might burn) at 8w, and I use strictly single-coil; with a dual coil like a nautilus, you really need more power to get it to go at all, so starting out at 8w wouldn't burn it, and once it's working well, you could even go higher, depending on the airflow you prefer.

Welcome to ECF!
Andria

The nautilus BVC is a single coil (Bottom Vertical Coil) , the older BDC (Bottom Dual Coil) was dual coil,,, and a horrible performer in comparison with the bvc.

' Breaking in ' a new / unused head by using a lower power setting for the first half to full tank does help with head longevity. After that under powering speeds up coil gunking.

I suggest sticking with authentic aspire nautilus bvc replacement heads.

Glad we could help, if 8.1 is doing it for you that is great. You still have some room left above that if needed. Even if you went overboard the worst case would be the coil burnt out and you are out $1-2 for the lesson, providing you have another coil available...if not go shopping soon because I can guarantee 2 things:

1. Eventually the coil will get old and either perform poorly or die.

2. If you are in a situation as a new vaper coming off cigarettes and are forced to smoke one due to your only vape rig being non operational after stopping or shortly after using cigarettes, the evil cancer stick will taste like .... I know this not because my rig went down but after about 10 days of vaping and zero cigarette use I thought to myself, hey lets try one just to see what it is like now... One hit and BOOM - I felt JUST like Meg Mucklebones after trying to eat poor Screwball in Legend as seen in this clip at 1:49:

PS: No fairies were harmed although a ... (British for cigarette) was rather mercilessly burnt, yelled at for being fouler than the blackest witch, viciously crushed then thrown into a garbage bin along with many of it's mates. Also I was not sorry for that, not one little bit, no.

Night,
The Nautilus came with a spare 1.8ohm coil and I bought the 5 pk of 1.8 as well. Hopefully those last me a bit! (I tried upping my wattage a bit and started getting the burning taste so I had to drop it back down. Thought this was weird as I only went up to 8.8. Hmmm)
And haha...I really hope I don't find myself in Meg's shoes! I'm gonna try my hardest to stay away from cigarettes. With all of the smokers around me, though, I'd assume one might be in my future. I'll let you know if that time comes!

How high you can turn it up depends a great deal on what airflow setting you use -- more air cools it so it doesn't burn, less air concentrates the flavor, but needs a lower wattage setting to avoid burning.

This would depend on what he thinks is a "real" menthol. If he means Menthol + Tobacco then I am sorry but I can't help as I loathe tobacco flavors now and the last I tried any was 5 years ago. If he has a tobacco he likes he could add the menthol crystals however. If he means a PURE menthol flavor then the Menthol crystals I use should do the trick. I can pretty much guarantee they provide the cool (if not downright freezing) effect obtained as well as nothing but clean menthol taste. I cannot stress how STRONG they are however. 4 ounces has lasted my wife and I well over a year now. granted we probaly only vape 2 mills a day between the both of us.

It is generally not a good idea to handle them with your bare hands then touch your lips or god forbid rub your eyes . We keep them in a very tightly sealed jar and have a small thin flexible plastic cup we use to scoop up a tiny amount of the crystals then pour into a dripper bottle. If he sub ohms I would not advise more than a tiny amount (smaller than the smilies here ) in a 10 ml bottle to test with. He can always add more in, but the only way to get it out if you mixed it too strong is to cut it by at least 50%.
If you mix it too strong and sub ohm it all I can say is :evil: :danger: :evil:

You can find them many places, I got mine here http://www.amazon.com/GreenHealth-C...d=1449250701&sr=8-1&keywords=menthol+crystals

They also have  POUNDS http://www.amazon.com/Greenhealth-M...=1449250701&sr=8-12&keywords=menthol+crystals

Along with many other sizes (2oz and up)

That plus some PG/VG and one can vape for a LOOONG time. I got mine at amazon as well:
VG:
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B015AHRST8?psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=oh_aui_detailpage_o02_s00

and PG:
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B015AHRST8?psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=oh_aui_detailpage_o02_s00

If you or he already have pg/vg then it is cheap try to them. ($6-8)

Good luck, and happy vaping!
Thanks Night!!

I'm not quite advanced as making my own juices yet. Maybe in the future, but right now I'm sticking to the experts haha. He's a little more adventurous than I, so I'll definitely pass this information along to him! Thanks again!

Welcome to ECF. I too was a menthol smoker when I first started vaping. The minty flavors just did not cut it for me. Many vendors use a mint blend as they do seem to satisfy some menthol smokers.

I have been making my own juice for many years now so have not tried any vendor juice in a long time. This may be worth a try for your brother though as I do know that they use flavor made from menthol crystals and not mint.
Menthol E Juice Baker Vapor

Good luck to you both and hang in there. It really does get easier as you go. This time next year, you will know more about vaping than you ever wanted to ;)
Thanks, Salem!
I actually ordered him a menthol juice from Mt. Baker that he hasn't tried yet. Hopefully it'll be the right fit for him!
Thanks! I'm just trying to get the hang of all this. You guys are definitely making it a hell of a lot easier and I'm extremely grateful for that! I'm gonna have to try to clear my mind out of some of the useless knowledge to make room for some of this vaping info!!

Once you do get "settled in" though, you should look into making your own -- with all this hooraw with the FDA, who knows how much longer commercial ejuice will be available, or even the nicotine to make your own -- now's a great time to stockpile! Plus, DIY is pretty easy, once you get the various "stuff" you need, and figure out what brands and what flavors suit your taste -- that's really the hardest part. Once you figure that out, it's no harder to make than koolaid.

I made sure that I bought the authentic replacements. I need to make this as easy for me as possible lol

I had it on the 2nd smallest, but I'm trying it now on the next size up and so far I'm liking it a little better. I guess there's a lot of trial and error to this. I just hope I don't screw something up along the way!

Thanks! Yeah, it's something I'd definitely be interested in exploring in the near future. Just don't want to get ahead of myself. I'm sure when I start, though, I'll be filling up the forums with questions haha

Well, you've got a pretty good setup for starting out, and you got some extra coils right off, so yeah, just experiment; worst that can really happen is you burn a coil/wick and have to replace it. The first 3-6 months of vaping, maybe even longer for some, is really about learning what works best for you, in terms of flavor, satisfaction, and ease of use -- it does keep ya hopping, trying to figure out so much new stuff at once, but it kinda helps as a distraction from cigarettes -- don't let it stress you out, make it fun, and those cigarettes will be HISTORY! :thumb:

I'm definitely finding it as a distraction to cigarettes!! Thankfully. I was a skeptic, not gonna lie. But I haven't craved a cigarette since I got this working decently! And thanks again to you all!! You've definitely kept my stress level to minimum!

You'll do OK with a 5-pack.
My new one is vaping beautifully at 12.8 watts (one of my preferred settings).
All day yesterday (at work, work vape hardware) I used a vertical Kanger coil and it was decidedly 'lame' at even 18 watts. Glad to have a new stock of BVCs.

I don't mind, 1.6 or 1.8. :)
