United Way and vaping.

So the company I work for is doing this massive fund raiser for the United Way, and my boss is "encouraging" us employees to make donations. Given how many organizations are out there, claiming to be in our best interest, yet anti vaping, I wanted to do some research before making a decision to donate.

I Googled and found a small handful of websites run by individual UW chapters, many of which have links to anti-vaping stories. But I still have no idea what United Way's stance is, as a whole, regarding vaping. Does anyone here know?

United way is made up of localized cells. Each lending support to the local community as well as neighboring counties in times of need.

You need to decide if your Local UW is a group you feel justified in supporting.

This is one of the few groups where I feel member opinion on Vaping has nothing to do with the work at hand.

I wouldn't, and won't, give a dime to them. There are many worthy causes that need your donation that don't feel the need to micromanage your life. If I were in your position, I'd make a donation to another charity and then let UW know exactly why my money elsewhere.

Although United Way's overhead is deemed an "acceptable" 17%, that still means a good chunk of your donated dollar goes to fund the distribution of the remaining 83%.

I know the kind of pressure bosses can levy because they love to see that 100% participation. If you want to make your boss happy, donate the minimum amount each paycheck, and donate whatever else you would like to a local charity and help your money stay in your community.
