So I went into batteries plus today, and had them test my two 18350's and two 16340's.. They were dead( just ordered them from thehouseofvapor). Anyway, they got out 2 normal lithium 3v batts. I asked them "wont they blow up in my face, there is a HUGE warning about not using unprotected batts". He said, "That will only happen if you try to charge them, they will not blow up". So IT IS okay to use normal batts, as long as you dont try and recharge them. I need somthing to get me by until I order my new rechargables..

Question: Where is the best place to buy breand new rechargables?

Thanks!

I'm assuming you are wanting retail not an internet vendor.

I have seen 14500s at Radio Shack. They were WAY overpriced. I didn't look close enough to see whether they were protected. They might have other sizes. As for using unprotected bats, I have seen posts from people that have had them explode when they were in their PV. Charging is probably the most likely time for that though.

What are you putting them in? There are several mods out there like the Buzz Pro that have the protection circuits built in.

The indulgence... Will be ordering the infinty pro, when it comes out. Radio shack? I'll have to go check that out! So a protection ciruit is to protect the batts from heating too much? Maybe I dont understand the whole protected thing? I just thought they were protected if they had the rubber insulation around them. I wouldn't mind ordering offline, just want them to be brand new.

You can use normal batts one time no problem.
Safe chemistry batts like LiMN won't explode like Li-Ion.
I like to use unprotected LiMN if PV has a fuse.
Protected Li-Ion may vent if batt protection circuit or charger not working correctly.
Safe chemistry batt can start a fire if short circuited.
If batt charge is drained below critical voltage it may not recharge.

I'm pretty sure the indulgence doesn't have protection circuits. If you must use those bats, supposedly they are more unstable when they are discharged too much or charged too much. Most li-on chargers are smart enough not to overcharge but, I can't say whether yours is. Get them on the charger early.

Great info, thanks. I have two lithium Cr123's both 3v's. To use until I get rechargables.. Flashlights don't blow up, why would our pv's?

Edit: I seriously dont get it :)

I think its Over Amp draw = heat = stress = venting of battery. That's why protection circuits check for shorts. But you may still be OK... IDK. Depends on what amps you need and what the battery "C" rating is (and the associated math with it... I don't remember off hand). Since I assume you are using them in series... I would definitely use the higher ohm atties/cartos on them if I had them to be safe and also to lengthen battery life since you don't want to run out and have the stores closed. There seems to be more caution about series battery use.

Of course, they vent during charging due to heat too... but you said you are not charging these....

Actually flashlights can and do blow up when stacking unprotected lithium batteries. Most of the time it is caused by a large imbalance in voltage between the two batteries. The chances of a single battery exploding are much lower, but who wants to take a chance with something that close to the face.

Here is a forum supplier that has good prices on good quality, protected batteries, and I think the shipping is free for purchases under $36.

My question would be if you got the batts DOA after having just received them, wont the seller send you out some new batts or refund your money?

Good question but if I were a vendor I would not want to.
I saw a juvy returning eight "bad duracells" for their boom box:facepalm:

If you use a new rechargeable batt until volts go below critical voltage it can kill the batt in one day.

Vendor doesn't know if batt was defective or operator error or if batts are a few months old from another vendor. In effort to maintain positive reviews vendor may choose to replace "DOA" batts.

We will see about this vendor.. thehouseofvapor.. lol, I offered to send them back to him, so HE could test them with a meter, (He didn't seem to beleive me, that they were DOA).. I wrote a review on his fb page, as he said I could, and said all great things, and the only thing I had to complain about was the dead batts.. Even after saying buy the indulgence from his shop and not eastmall, (because I hate them), he erased it.. hahahar. WOuld be nice if he sent me some new batts, I really doubt it. While I was shopping on his page, I had my "shopping cart full", then when I cam back, the limit for free shipping had been raised ten dollars.. who does that??

If you're going to be using mods or basically even if your not get a multimeter. Every vapor needs one for checking atty, batteries, cartos, voltage, ohms, troubleshooting, etc. Harbor Freight has them pretty cheap, usually less than ten bucks and sometimes less than 5. I highly recommend geting one.

I have a meter. Thanks for the recommendation though.

Did any of the four batts work at first?
How long did it take to get full charge?
What charger are you using?
Does charger work w/ other batts?
How long did your new non-rechargeable batts last in your PV?

They all barely worked, the 3.2's didn't work at all. I do have a meter and did check them, they were dead.

The charger is one of those cheap, black, slider ones, I will be getting a better one. The non-rechargables are still going, VERY HOT! lol. I tried charging the rechargabales, said they had a full charge, then took them out, and said they had no charge again. The multimeter read way under what they should be.

if you are capable of building mods there are aftermarket protection circuits you can order online to put in a mod so they will be protected by the mod...but thats for single batt situations mainly...I wouldn't trust 2 batt series setups without a balancing charging circuit...

also MAKE SURE the batts are rechargable if you intent to re use them...primaries WILL explode if you charge them...
