so I just rebuilt a evod head. I used cotton yarn instead of the silica to wrap the coil around. Normally I just take the stock head and replace the silica that sits on top with cotton yarn. OH MY!!!!!!!!!! its un real how much of a difference the cotton makes!!!!! im so excited about this. cant wait to get my hands on a kayfun now!!!!!!! Its like I discovered vapeing all over again.

If cotton is bright white, chances are it was bleached with hydrogen peroxide. But so what? Hydrogen peroxide is unstable and decomposes into water and oxygen; there's simply no peroxide left in the cotton you get.

Of course some of the best cotton for wicking are the various Japanese unbleached organic pads intended for cosmetic use; Koh Gen Do is probably the best known.

But rayon is even better.

I remember making this discovery. When I was about to give up vaping because I was using double flavor juice and wasnt tasting it very well. Someone recommended I rewick with cotton and I did. A whole different world. I use organic cotton balls. Ive heard alot of talk about the pads, cotton from japan, and some other types but the cotton balls work great for me.

I don't know what is left in the cotton, but there is something very strong smelling that comes off when I boiled it.
So bad that I couldn't stand to be near it.

Wasn't great with store bought and even worse with Swisspers organic.
Didn't smell at all after drying out, but I'm still finding them in the clothes dryer after an aborted 'idea'.

Much prefer KGD Japanese to cotton balls, but nothing beats rayon in my opinion.

Disclaimer: I'm not a scientist, I just play one in the kitchen

Edit: And to the OPs point, yes cotton blows away silica by miles

cotton=more taste, better hit, way more vapor, no burnt taste when u crank up the volts. all this makes me:)

You can Crack up the Volts as High as you Want and Not Have Any Burnt Taste. Heck, you can Use 110 volts if you want.

As Long as there is Enough Wicking to Transfer the Heat Generated by the Coil Wire.

Wicking is the Key to Not Getting a Burnt Hit.

Maybe so, but it wasn't peroxide.

Ever been near (or in) a paper mill? I'm wondering if it smelled like that?

I find that all wicking materials have a distinct taste when the wick is brand new.

I concur. Of course the trick with any of them is getting the density right. KGD pads are probably the easiest that way. You still have to figure out what the correct density for your particular atty/coil is, but once you do, it's pretty straightforward to achieve the same results consistently.

Yes, many.

No, more of a harsh chemically type smell that burned a bit on inhalation.
Like boiling vinegar solution - but not the same smell - more like a weak drain cleaner.

I Just started doing this as well – I’ve been saving my burnt Kanger coils and just started carefully removing the burnt silica wick and doing a dryburn and rinse – then just re-wick with cotton and it works great. Looks like removing the used up cotton will be a lot easier then removing the used up silica wick – possibly extending the coil life further..
How many “re-wicks” are you getting on Kanger coils when you use cotton??
thanks

Where do you all buy your cotton? I ask because someone was trying to find it and it was made with hydrogen peroxide. Is all cotton that way?

You mean H2O2 - water with an extra oxygen molecule - in isn't there once the cotton has been Rinsed, dried, processed and packaged.

Hydrogen Poroxide breaks down under use. That is how it works. once the second oxygen molecule is released it is Water.

When Talking about Chemical Compounds like H2O2 or something like Sucralose, I think this is something that Should Be considered....

...

Most people are familiar with the common drugstore variety of 3-percent hydrogen peroxide, used for everything from sterilizing a cut to cleaning kitchen countertops. Hydrogen peroxide's sterilizing power comes from its extra oxygen atom. Hydrogen peroxide has a similar oxidizing, or cleansing, power in the body. However, the drugstore variety of H2O2 should never be used internally, because of the chemicals it contains as stabilizers.

...
