I always put them in boiling hot water and let them sit there for about 5 to 10 minutes...... Then screw them onto an old battery so you can pull or bend back and forth as you pull out on it to get the tube off. If it does not work the first time try the process again. I only have to do it once normally.... that should work.
No it will not hurt any of the inside componets.... Thats also how you would clean an atty.... just has to be dryed overnight if you were going to try and use it again... check out some of the atty cleaning vids ..... if you want to use it again because you have many options for cleaning
