They all will get an extended bath in the ultrasonic cleaner with some alcohol before using.
Told by a surgeon friend the most highly effective, inexpensive, and readily available disinfectant is 91% Isopropyl Alcohol (but not 70% strength). Soak 15-20 minutes, rinse thoroughly, and you are golden.

It's not like Hep C as far as viruses or whatever. It doesn't live that long on surfaces I don't think. I'd imagine just quarantining every package for a week ought to do it. The issues is going to really come at the other end when it comes down to it,. Like, whether your mailman has subclinical symptoms yet.
<snip>
Yep.
The human race will survive. Some people will die. People die every day.
<snip>
If only people were as concerned about climate change, a FAR greater threat to humanity. And, it's no longer something you can consider only a threat to future generations, as though that wouldn't be enough. It's here, it's accelerating, the forecasts of its effects have been too conservative.
I've got three orders from China, placed on January 13, 17, and 18.
The one placed on the 13th was handed over to Holland 2-weeks later, on the 27th, and is now showing, "in transit to country of destination".
The one placed on the 17th showed up in NYC yesterday, the 31st.
The one placed on the 18th hasn't shown any tracking updates since the 20th, when it showed, "is preparing to dispatch this mail piece".

Man made climate change is a hoax. The only thing that has been proven about man made climate change is that it's wrong.

I got an order shipped from FT just before the holiday deadline that will probably arrive Monday. I've got some stuff qued up in an FT cart that will wait until FT restarts. Then I have a return issue that will be delayed because of this trouble.

I'm taking the corona threat seriously. When I shop next week I'll be looking to stock twice as much food as usual so I won't need to leave home for 30 days if it comes to that.

I'm not going OUTSIDE. It's too dang hot out there.

NO ONE knows for sure that global warming is real, manmade, or not. It's not EVEN worth ARGUING about I don't see why the WEATHER should be so contentious, and if we all wind up drowning (although I am kind of in a good place to NOT drown) or whatever, I can eat or swallow my words THEN.

Don't y'all remember about freaking global cooling and the INCIPIENT ice age? which, actually could still be INCIPIENT?

It's called weather, innit? People talk about it. All the time.

Death is never a pretty picture. Well, IDK, I plan on dying with the husband, in a nice warm pool, having sex, and us both having mutual heart attacks. That sounds nice to me.

Who knows, but mostly death is... death. We are all gonna do it.. Seriously.

Just checked two orders pending from the FT sale. And yes,
Service alert: the ongoing coronavirus spread is placing China under defecto lockdown.
Local labor policy currently prevents staffs from returning to work as scheduled.
Customer service is available with limited capacity at this time as we work from home.
Shipping is now expected to resume normal service on February 10, 2020. More details to follow.
However, an order placed on Feb 1 now shows,
Waiting to be Packaged
Don't need immediately so probably will quarantine the mod in a ziplock until needed.

"I expect there will be a vaccine, but I would also expect that it will take the better part of a year to produce in sufficient volume to make much of a difference."

MAYBE NOT!

In a statement, Gilead Sciences (NASDAQ:GILD) Chief Medical Officer Merdad Parsey, M.D., Ph.D., says the company has supplied experimental antiviral remdesivir to a small number of patients infected with 2019-nCoV, the coronavirus causing the current outbreak, on an emergency basis since there are no approved treatments for the respiratory ailment.

It is working with Chinese health authorities on a clinical trial to determine the safety and efficacy of the nucleotide analog (it is being developed to treat infections from Ebola and Marburg viruses). It is also expediting laboratory testing of the drug against 2019-nCoV.

The New England Journal of Medicine reported that the first U.S. infected person, a man in Seattle, was treated with remdesivir on the seventh day of his hospitalization. Although he is still an in-patient, all symptoms, except his cough (which has improved), have resolved. The day after he received the drug, his temperature dropped from almost 103 degrees Fahrenheit to 99.1, reaching the normal range soon thereafter.

Perhaps I'm being pedantic here, but an anti-viral drug is not the same thing as a vaccine.

Also, this is an experimental drug. The FDA calls it an "Investigational New Drug". That implies it's not being produced in large quantities.

An anti viral drug is not the same thing a as a vaccine, no. It actually TREATS the illness AFTER you get it which is rather nice for those infected.

If it works, they will ramp up quantities. That is not that hard.

Yes, a vaccine will be nice, too, but treatment of the ill is always a pleasure.

Rossum do you NEEED a good pandemic or something? Do you not remember the swine flu scare, the freaking bird flu scare, the THIS the THAT. Jeez.

Go read Bill Bryson's "A short History of Nearly Everything." Actually EVERYONE should read it (it's not short though) but it is The Bomb.

Then, you can sit around contemplating like, the weirdness of ANY of us BEING here for even a SECOND.

Really. We should all have never even existed. if you can think , even in a child like manner.

Pandemics don't scare me. And I used to get super regular panic attacks and had to marathon train myself into being "okay" with dying in a tunnel or on a bridge (it's an actual martial arts practice but Marsha Linehan stole it and made it good) so like really.

Maybe I am an evil person and will DIE from the pandemic but seriously that "first treated person?"

That means whatever sneaky political thing that was to happen, has happened.

Fret about that,. There is not going to be a pandemic. Let alone a GLOBALLY fatal one. I'm not looking to die but I have lived FAR longer than I plausibly should have.

Which is why I is gonna henna my hair tomorrow,. Etc.

Yes, I do remember them. But I don't think any of them spread quite like this thing has.

-- 2020.1.31 Update --

** Due to the recent outbreak of Coronavirus, we have to extend the CNY holiday to February 9, 2020. All services resume on February 10, 2020, at 9:30 am (Hong Kong Time). **

Most postal services that FastTech provided will resume on February 10, 2020.
Being a reviewer so need communicating with Chinese manufacturers and Vendors to send links and organise samples i always look at the Chinese Holidays and Observations. Feb 01 according to the Chinese Holidays and Observations was supposed to be a Working weekend day so first day back after their New Year Holidays, in China they have 3 or 4 special weekend working days a year for some reason where even when they don't usually work weekends they work these days. All of a sudden the Feb 01 weekend working day disappeared off the Holidays and Observations calendar so was obviously cancelled and wasn't worked. I have already had a couple of messages from manufactures including Geekvape to say they will not be returning to work until Feb 10th so not sure if it's enforced by Government or left to companies to decide for themselves, it may even be what area of China the company is situated as it's a massive country so maybe the situation isn't bad everywhere!

    New update today from FT:

Service update: the ongoing coronavirus spread caused China to extend the Lunar New Year holiday to February 10, 2020.
However as we returned to work, local authorities laid down a number of new, previously unannounced rules to deliberately slow businesses from resuming work.
Customer service is currently available with limited capacity as we continue to work from home.
Shipping is now expected to resume normal service on February 17, 2020. We are working hard on this and we apologize for the wait.

Looks like the long wait is gonna be... a little longer.

Yeah the manufacturers that extended their CNY holiday to 10th have informed me they have extended further until 17th but to be honest when it gets to the 17th it will not surprise me if it then changes to the 24th and so on.

On top of that in China they don't have contracts and traditionally look for a different job after NY so about 70% of the workforce don't return to their previous jobs and new workers need recruiting and training!
