upgrade my PT cable HELP!!!

ok guys i have a 510 PT that was not acting right so i desided to upgrade the cable i didnt have an extra USB cable around the house so took some pretty heavy guage 2wire speaker wire and cut the usb in off with slack and the 510battery off with slack an spliced them into the wire using just the two thick wires on the PT im sure its because im not using the tiny two wires in the middle of usb wire and did not work what the correct splicing for this? and can i use this 2wire wire?

USB pinout

You only need +5v (Pin 1) and ground (Pin 4), two wires. The other two are for data.

for some reason its not traveling through the wire i can lay on floor with the usb in the computer with just the two exposed wire coming out and touch one inside the atty and other on outside and bamm it works but when i try with a 4ft piece of wire it doesnt work...?

ok i got it my 510manual battery end it bad the button must of went out ok now i have to make me an swich box how do i break the battery to get the connecter out of it?

If you have a dead atty screw it in, then apply heat. Twist and pull gently. DONT over heat it. It should come out easy.
