rounding third and heading home...
I think the Tesla has a better menu system than the Z-Max. It also has a feature that I haven't seen in any other mod, (certainly not in the same price range); a spring-loaded center pin. Regarding the button placement, I think they're in the right spot, otherwise you'd be hitting the adjustment buttons with your index finger while pressing the fire button with your thumb. Most people just seem to notice that they're above the screen and jump to the conclusion that it's "wrong", without thinking about how they'd actually hold and use the unit.

the tesla looks like it was designed by 10 yr old boy who just finished watching star wars IMHO

Okay, so the Tesla has a 3 button operation: 1 to fire and two to scroll through and change options (+/-). Seems easy.

On the Zmax...I do like the Telscoping option to use different batteries depending on your mood if you want larger or smaller mod. Now, to change settings with only a single button...do you need to scroll all the way up through volts/watts to get back to the lowest setting or is there a way to back it down versus only increase and start over? Can the VV/VW setting be decreased quickly without having to continuously scroll through the upper values?

Thanks, gotta snapshot of your iTaste 3 with a Protank on it. Just seems it would look a bit disproportionate.

I wonder why people like the look of the iTaste 3 at all. I think it looks like a device you would use to check if your mouth is pregnant.
The MVP isn't much better, unless you want people to think you're volunteering for a breathalyzer. I'm not saying that these devices don't work well. I just think they look a bit odd.

Good luck on your venture. I'm sure you'll find what's best for you. Wish I could help but I don't have the necessary experience to recommend anything. I just wanted to agree with you on that awkward setup.

It's extremely intuitive and quick to adjust. To add to my last post: on the Tesla, the fire button is on the opposite side from the adjustment buttons, so whether you fire it with your thumb or index finger, you want those adjustment buttons where they are; high on the unit, above the screen. That keeps you from accidentally pressing them when firing the unit. The Tesla also has a lock feature, (press both adjustment buttons for a couple seconds to lock/unlock), to ensure that even if you do manage to press them accidentally, your power or voltage setting will not change.

All this is why I won't consider buying any of the iTaste models. They're ugly, IMO. Even though the SVD is a tube style mod, it's ENORMOUS.

Well, just add to the complexity...

I really like my Itaste SVD. I like the looks and I don't even mind the size, it might even be a plus. I use 18500s in it so it's not quite as tall as it could be. (By the way, the Tesla doesn't look nearly as much like something out of Star Wars as the SVD does.) I'm left handed and the button / screen placement is very natural for me, but may not be for a right hander (see PBusardo's video).

Ya either like the look or ya don't, but ya can't objectively argue that the Tesla's performance isn't excellent. ;)
