Hi all, Just wondering if anyone can help - I am new and love this site!! basically I quit cold turkey 7 months ago - now I am doing very well but still want nicotine (I was v.heavy smoker before!) my wife vapes and I have been thinking of starting (as I still hate going to pub, Christmas wont be the same etc -without nicotine)). If I told anyone this I knew they would think I am an absolute idiot for even thinking about vaping - but I seriously am thinking of it (with nicotine one not the 0% one (as that doesn't appeal!).

Please let me know if anyone else has done this or any one has any suggestions / recommendations etc - thanks so much and merry Christmas all!

I, for one, will not knock ya for acknowledging your weakness. It is FAR better to choose to vape your nicotine, rather than give in to the urge with smokes while at the pub. The few times in the past that I've given up smoking (w/o vaping), drinking definitely was my greatest weakness to bum smokes off of others...and the downward spiral back to smoking began. Definitely (if you like, I have no knowledge of your marital relationship dynamic) open up to your wife about your concern. I would certainly agree that borrowing a vaporizer from the wifey or picking something up for yourself could get you through the night. Good luck, be safe, and have fun :toast:!

Maybe try some of your wife's vaping kit if it's not pink or anything. If it keeps you from picking up a cig by all means try it out. You can then get a small setup with 24 or 16 to 18 mg nicotine that you can use for high risk, or uncomfortable situations. Something like an E-Go C-Twist 650 mAh with a Protank II Mini. Congratulations on quitting cold turkey. The times I tried that I felt like Ewan McGregor in Trainspotting! That's one of the reasons I'm so grateful for finding vaping. Good luck with it. Stay safe at the pubs!

Thanks Hypatia - I agree anything that stops me thinking f&^% it - and start smoking - I think people do not understand how much it is part of us!! wife is very supportive - probably secretly would be happy for me to vape - as there is that shared experience we miss. I used to see smoking as the full stop at the end of the sentence..and life is never quite the same without it!!!

Welcome to the forums, can you borrow a battery and tank from the wife? What nic she use?

If she has say 12 nic run down to the drug store and find vegetable glycerine and mix 1:1 down to 6 nic to get you bye. Flavor won't be as great but will have the nic.

All else be strong and don't reach for a analog or take a vape from the wife every so often to keep you happy.

right I am doing it!! 6mg all the way - thanks all! excited now!!! lol

thanks molimelight - I actually have the whole kit ready to go (just trying to decide whether to do it!!) - to be honest I think I wont wil - if I vape I may think - blimmin hell went 7 months, and if I don't I will be thinking about nic while out!! ggrrrrr - this is me all over!!!

Right on! Better to have it and not need it, than to not have it and REALLY need it! So glad to hear you're wifey is supportive. It's always great to have a spouse in your corner who understands!

We have a decision! Things are usually better for me after I make a decision. I hate that feeling of being undecided and in limbo! One benefit you may get from it is based on what I understand from those who have done it (I haven't yet, too scared to try!) If you vape for a while and try a cigarette again it tastes horrible and it may close that door forever.

hello Dannyboyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy,

welcome to ECF

yepper if it keeps you OFF of burning paper & plants -- V A P E

if you have to, go buy a disposable, something like this:
- Ritchy Impulse Disposable [VE428] - £4.95 : Vape Escape

just to get you thru "PUB" time (better than money spent on a pac-of-cigs)

then research what kind of Vaping gear you want to pursue...

I tell people that after 40+ yrs of smoking it was like losing a finger
or similar... it WAS a big part of my life

Good Luck :)

I think you're doing the right thing, I reached the point very early on where I can go to the pub, stand with my mates while they're smoking and not even have the slightest inclination to have a real one. Plus I can do it inside in most pubs around here!

In the past when I've quit (using every different method possible) I've always relapsed while out on the pop. Not any more! But I do make sure I carry plenty of spare bits and pieces with me, just in case...

my 2 cents

you quit 7 months ago - you are no longer addicted to nicotine - you just want the peace of mind you thought nicotine gave you.
just get some 0 nic eliquid so you don't run the risk of getting back on the nasty, stinky, life wrecking cigarettes.

like I said, just my overdramatic 2 cents

The pull of nicotine is strong. Really strong for some of us. Like me. Nothing but vaping got me to stop smoking. I don't think I'll ever break my nicotine addiction. It's just breathtakingly powerful in my case.

If you're having trouble with craving nicotine, yes, vape. Vape now. Run, don't walk. I'd hate to see somebody who quit smoking "slip" and return to cigarettes.

And anybody who thinks you're an absolute idiot is an absolute idiot. What? They'd rather you smoke?

Yes, it's better, since you quit entirely, to stay away from nicotine. But is it realistic? You're the only person who can answer that question. Whether you can hold out or not is something only you can judge. But I'm firmly of the opinion that if you can't hold out, vape your nicotine, don't smoke it.

By the way, a lot of vapers are successful in tapering off their nicotine use. We just got a great little vape shop close to me (I'm so glad to see it, the next one is 50 miles away) and one of the owners tapered down to 0 nic and is doing great.

So even if you go back to nicotine by way of vaping (in order to avoid slipping back into smoking), that doesn't mean necessarily you're "trapped". Maybe you just need more time to wean yourself off. It's not a "failure". Maybe you just need more time to wean yourself off the nicotine.

Back before vaping even existed, I quit cold turkey and went for months like you have. I slipped one time. Just once. And, bam, went right back to smoking. I wish vaping had existed back then. If I could have picked up vaping to deal with the nic cravings, I might have quit smoking before I was 30 instead of 50. Which could have made who knows how much a difference in my health?

I quit smoking 3 years ago and the nic urges came back so I tried with no nic thinking it was the habit coming back and now I sit at 6mg nic and feel great. It kept me from relapsing to smokes.
