Hi all, Just wondering if anyone can help - I am new and love this site!! basically I quit cold turkey 7 months ago - now I am doing very well but still want nicotine (I was v.heavy smoker before!) my wife vapes and I have been thinking of starting (as I still hate going to pub, Christmas wont be the same etc -without nicotine)). If I told anyone this I knew they would think I am an absolute idiot for even thinking about vaping - but I seriously am thinking of it (with nicotine one not the 0% one (as that doesn't appeal!).
Please let me know if anyone else has done this or any one has any suggestions / recommendations etc - thanks so much and merry Christmas all!
The pull of nicotine is strong. Really strong for some of us. Like me. Nothing but vaping got me to stop smoking. I don't think I'll ever break my nicotine addiction. It's just breathtakingly powerful in my case.
If you're having trouble with craving nicotine, yes, vape. Vape now. Run, don't walk. I'd hate to see somebody who quit smoking "slip" and return to cigarettes.
And anybody who thinks you're an absolute idiot is an absolute idiot. What? They'd rather you smoke?
Yes, it's better, since you quit entirely, to stay away from nicotine. But is it
realistic? You're the only person who can answer that question. Whether you can hold out or not is something only you can judge. But I'm firmly of the opinion that if you can't hold out, vape your nicotine, don't smoke it.
By the way, a
lot of vapers are successful in tapering off their nicotine use. We just got a great little vape shop close to me (I'm so glad to see it, the next one is 50 miles away) and one of the owners tapered down to 0 nic and is doing great.
So even if you go back to nicotine by way of vaping (in order to avoid slipping back into smoking), that doesn't mean necessarily you're "trapped". Maybe you just need more time to wean yourself off. It's not a "failure". Maybe you just need more time to wean yourself off the nicotine.
Back before vaping even existed, I quit cold turkey and went for months like you have. I slipped one time. Just once. And, bam, went right back to smoking. I wish vaping had existed back then. If I could have picked up vaping to deal with the nic cravings, I might have quit smoking before I was 30 instead of 50. Which could have made who knows how much a difference in my health?
