My kit from The VaporPro came with 220mah and 340mah batteries. Both charge fine with the a/c adapter, but when I try to charge either in a USB port, they don't charge. I've tried on my home laptop and on the desktop at work. The VaporPro people tell me if the USB works when connected to the a/c adapter that it's working and that it may not be compatible with my USB ports. Has anyone experienced this?

That's really odd. Possibly Dormouse will know what the issue is, she's an expert on batteries.

It does make sense what they're saying. But if it doesn't work, it doesn't work. Maybe post the mah and voltage of the usb charger you have, that might help someone figure out what the issue might be. It won't help me, I'm pretty much clueless with battery stuff, but it might help someone else figure out the issue.

I have had issues when using a "non powered" usb port. But i believe that the ports on your laptop are all powered. Do you have a desktop at home? If so, try one of the rear usb ports and see if it charges.....good luck

that is really strange ,,coz usb stands for "universal standardize bus" meaning all usb ports are exactly the same!! .5v

Very true, but i have had plenty of issues using thumb drives, ipods etc. when not using a usb port connected directly to the main board of the system. USB ports on the front of your system or maybe from your keyboard might not supply the full voltage needed. Its the only thing that i can think of that might cause the op's problem.

its could be due to your ports are being shared and its not providing true 500mA because as you plug in more devices to your USB. the amperes will drop. or that your batteries need more amperes past 500mA to charge. you can simply check your a/c charger. they usually have a sticker somewhere stating the input voltage and the output voltage and amperage. if its more then 500mA chances are your battery needs to be more then 500mA to initiate the charging.

hope that I am clear about this. as i did once own a external hard drive and it actually needs more power to initiate the spin of the hard drive.

They are standardized for data transfer not power, there's still a ton of laptops and motherboards that don't have powered USB ports. And not all USB ports are powered at 500maH either, I've seen them range from 100mah up too 1aH and 2.5V to 5V. I always recommend using a ac adapter because using a laptop or desktop port is a really slow trickle charge if it works.
