Has anyone here successfully repaired a 510 USB pass-through. This is a plain, pen-style device with no in-line battery where the center post seems to have been pushed down too far to make contact with most 510 atomizers. I'm sure I displaced the center post with a 510-to-901 adapter that was received a tad out of adjustment. After using and removing the adapter, my 510 atties and cartos won't fire anymore.
What I'd like to do is disassemble the pass-through and try to push the center post out a little to make better contact with "normal" 510 parts.
Any pitfalls to look out for?

Hi Tom,
The center post sits in a silicone ring and the post will push down when a wonky atomizer/cartomizer with a too long center post is used or if the silicone just wasn't fitted well to begin with. If the passthrough is fairly new, perhaps you should contact the supplier first. If not, here is what you can try:

The biggest problem with the passthrough's center post repair is that there isn't a center hole to work with to pull up the center post as with some batteries and there isn't much room to work with in there. You'll have to manipulate the post from the outside edges.

Finding a "tool" to use that will work is the worst part. Try a tiny flat screwdriver (like used for eye glasses repair), small metal nail file or tweezers (pointed may be best, but you'll have to try a few things to see what fits inside there). Start at the 12:00 point, then move to 3:00, 6:00 and 9:00, gently pressing toward the center and lifting at each spot. You can usually lift up the center a half mm or so.

Try out your atomizer. If it doesn't work, try again. Be very careful not to twist or turn the post or pull up too hard.

Lifting an atomizer/carto post is sometimes easier and you may have to try to lengthen some of yours to work with the passthrough. Be aware that this can ruin them before you decide to do it though.

CTJ did some photos of her method with tweezers, this is basically the same method you'll use for the passthrough as well.

The only other option (which you might want to consider trying first since you can ruin the center post completely trying to pull it up) is to try a piece of wire shaped such as the staple mod and applied to the atomizer/cartomizer (since it has a hole and the passthrough end doesn't).

I've used this on batteries before (801) but have not tried this on an atomizer/passthrough. I don't think you have to use a staple, perhaps a small piece of copper wire is easier to cut/shape and might give you the contact you need (stripped phone wire should work). Here is the basic idea with pictures:

You'll have to be careful that it doesn't short the atomizer/cartomizer (cut the wire so it only sits in the atty's center post area). Turn the atty upside down when you connect the passthrough to it to keep the wire in place and try to keep it out of the cartomizer's air channel.

PM me if you end up trying the reverse staple mod and it works (or doesn't )?

Also I'd suggest buying a back up passthrough as soon as you can. If I was in the market for a new passthrough, I'd consider something like this nifty 510 passthrough 510 Sit and Go USB Passthrough

Good luck! :vapor:
