I am not 100% sure why my 510 passthru also has a battery, but I know that if you search you'll find other posts about that very subject. But I just checked the voltages for mine and this is what I found:

- The voltage at my atty (from the passthru) is right at 4.12 volts.
- The voltage coming out of my computer to the passthru is 4.52 volts.

My best guess would be that the battery is there to limit the output to the atty to the 4.12 volts (or somewhere in that vicinity) which is the voltage that our standard attys were designed to operate at. The 4.52 volts directly from the computer is just too high.

Also, the battery in my passthru is 320 mA which means that if the power in my house goes out, it will last a while by itself. You can unplug it from your computer and it will still work, although not for very long.

Hope that helps.

I use a 510 passthru all the time and it works great powered by my iPhone AC/USB adapter.

One thing I found that plugged in on my computer USB sometimes the battery would go dead, maybe not enough power? Also some have said that if there is a problem with the PT it might take out your computer motherboard so be careful.

I think it is safer to use a AC/USB adapter than to plug it into the computer or monitor.

Hey Liberty, will you do me a favor and see how many volts (1V or 2V) your AC/USB adapter is? I was told that they need to be 2V and mine is only 1V. Before ordering a PT I'd like to know if I have to spend more money on an adapter or if the one I have will work. Thanks! :)

Hi GoodDog; I think you are talking about amps, not volts because most seem to be about 5 volts. I am not sure about AC adapters with just 1 or 2 volts. My Apple iPhone ac/usb adapter/charger is 5V 1A. A computer USB output is 5V 500mA (.5A) so this charges quicker than your computer.

I also bought one of these that a lot of people here seem to use successfully with the PT's which is also 5 volts.

wall sockets are at a real premium in this old house, and since I have computers and all the attendent stuff plugged in everywhere - I may be stuck with going through the usb port on my computer. Good point though about the possibility of frying a motherboard, I'd hate to ruin the one on my 'good' computer (the rest are all old ones I buy for next to nothing and fix up just for the hell of it, most of them have usb1 ports)

Oops, my geekiness is showing there. I had to admit to my hubby last night that, yes - a tiny part of my desire for a pv was the geek factor, its Electronic, afterall. (Geekdom being an aspiration much to be desired and persued, of course.)

Duh, yep I sure was. So, if I can use a PT with my iPhone adapter/charger then I'll just have to get me one. ;) I have a plug handy and don't want to risk damaging my computer. Now to find a supplier that won't charge a fortune for shipping one item.

Are PTs all about the same or are some better quality than others?

GoodDog, I'm kind of partial to Cignot and they have them, $22 with free shipping. Joye Passthru

Because I am at my desk a lot, I use this 90% of the time and the vape is always consistently good.

Cignot is the only company I buy hardware from, but since I only want to buy one item it's not free shipping (over $59) and would bring the cost to $27. If all PTs are the same I thought maybe I could find it cheaper. I've spent so much money this month on toys and juice that I don't dare go "shopping"! :D
