After reading here about exploding batteries and shorted USB ports, I'm having 2nd thoughts about the Tornado Ego 650mah USB passthrough I ordered and am waiting on in the mail. I think I'd rather get a USB/AC adapter and plug this into a surge protector and not use a computer.

Is this the safest way? And how do I choose the optimal adapter for knowing that everything is compatible and not likely to cause issues?

Also, I've read that you should let batteries "rest" between charges. How does this apply to passthoughs? And how long can one use a passthrough before resting it?

Plugging the passthrough into a computer is not a good idea
You could probably get away with it, but why risk your computer
MadVapes has an AC to USB converter thats good for 2 Amp, which is what you want
The rest between charges does not really apply to passthroughs
The USB voltage should just keep the battery fully charged
And the battery supplies the voltage for vaping
So there is really no full cycling of the battery

I'll be back with a link

Here is what I use with no problems
2 amp AC to USB Adapter

Better hurry
Theres only "1386 Available in Stock"

To attach to the computer you need a Powered usb port/hub (plug into a recepticle), not the usb on the computer. The passthrough is not a battery. How long it be plugged while not in use is an answer the manufacture has to give you.

Plugging into the surge protector is safe, for the adaptor I believe you need a 1.5 amp 5volts output.

The eGo USB PT's and other PT's of that type trickle charge the battery slowly. They don't draw too many amps for the computer.

Concerns (computer port wise) are shorted wires ...but that's true for any USB device.

The cautions for computer USB PT use are more for the 5 volt TRUE PTs...they draw a lot of amps because they don't even have a battery.

That said, using an A/C to USB adapter is fine. Frees up a USB port. Might as well get a 2 amp or better one since you may wish to try a true 5v PT someday.

Not sure if you mean that another concern is using a PT while charting it (using it while plugged in). IDK if there's ever been an issue with this. But I understand the concern. The rest of this is pure guess:

1) Most battery explosions while charging are due to using the wrong charger.
2) Some may be due to defective/damaged batteries.

Since the eGo PT charger is built into the e-cig (if using a USB cable for recharge) I don't see #1 as an issue. As to #2, I suppose if it's damaged it could fail during use too, so........ don't know what to say about that one. For any e-cig.

In general you could actually switch to 5v PT stuff since it doesn't even have a battery to "go boom" and save the batteries for travel. Just a thought.
